The second half of the series deals more with Etrigan and the occult. To be honest I'm not entirely sure what happens and I'll be sticking to the Warren/asylum angle when possible.
Years Ago Etrigan fought the demons pictured above, The Skarvs, and imprisioned them in corpses and locked them under Arkham. Doodlebug, the super graffiti artist we've been seeing, has been murdering prideful people and using their blood to paint the town to empower these demons because he's worshiping them, and he intends to release them, which is what is happening during the current prison break.
We'll see how that goes for him in the upcoming issues.
Thanks. I guess I glossed over some of the details.
I personally think the series would have been better if it had been focused on Warren and the inmates. The “white collar criminal feigns insanity and gets chewed up and spit out by the inmates” premise is just more effective than demons.
Kind of reminds me of how ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ threw in aliens and demonic possession in the mix when they already had a strong enough story with the angle of a normal person being committed to a horrific asylum (although in that case we had an innocent woman committed for being a lesbian).
Yeah I admit the demon thing is kind of the weak point of the series. I was gonna say we need some kind of catalyst to transition White from his old life to his new one, but that pretty much happens without the demons.
It doesn't even really make sense continuity-wise. Arkham's "traditional" site (where the demons were supposedly buried) was blown up by Bane during Knightfall; after that they moved it to a mansion in a different part of Gotham.
