Gotta say, as much as I've never been a big fan of Dan Slott, I'm really disappointed by the idea of a "back to basics" approach to Iron Man from the upcoming relaunch. Finally starting to go fully transhuman with Tony Stark and Iron Man was the best idea for the character since Extremis, and quite frankly "the basics" for Iron Man have always been dodgy, which is why historically he wasn't in Marvel's top tier with characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, or the Hulk. I mean, he's a rich dude who sucks and puts on a suit of armor to beat up communists and industrial spies, he's very been a particularly resonant symbol of anything.

Having Norman Osborn become administrator of Ravencroft really stretches credulity. Not only have we seen this character find himself, over and over, in positions of power which make no sense, but the dude was just a patient there, at the very least it makes no sense to immediately afterward put him in what's surely a high pressure position of immense importance.

Weird to have a reboot of Ultraman from an exclusively non-Japanese creative team. There might be something to the cultural exchange at play, reinterpreting what was, to my understanding, somewhat of a reinterpretation of American superheroes, but it still looks a little weird.

Another Black Widow series. I get why they keep trying, but it's weird that none of her recent series have seemed to resonate. Even the Waid/Samnee run labored in the shadow of Daredevil and the feeling of trying to recapture lightning in a bottle.

Oh, ha, another issue of that Abrams Spider-Man book. It is to laugh.

Not sure how I feel about Marvel increasingly getting behind Immortal Hulk with these one-shots and tie-ins. I do like that they're clearly onboard with it, but what hamstrung Ewing for so long at Marvel was that he was forced to labor under the weight of tie-ins and events, and I just don't want to see that start happening to Immortal Hulk.

Marvel in general seems to have an interesting relationship with Japanese media. Recently there was a manga "Spider-man: Fake Red".

Ultraman is... interesting.
Since 2013, the franchise has seen a sort of revival, so I wonder if this might be something to try to get into the wester market.

oh, man, I _LOVED_ this series and bawled my eyes out when I found out that issue 20 was the last one (while I was reading it)

the reason for that is because this particular issue takes place in Japan, as the pilot for Combrata, Genji Odashu, was Japanese, and had vanished during a test pilot mission, when she was taken to be a pilot by the Followers of Light.

So she went back to Japan to explain what had happened, and why she shouldn't be drummed out of the JSDF, since she had been saving the world from evil and all.

Then the 5 headed monster there attacked, she defended Japan, she was banished, so she went back to the US and hooked up with the pilot of Raydeen, Richard Carson.

(well, first she just moved into his beachside house, much to the annoyance of his girlfriend, but after the girlfriend dumped him, they could no longer ignore their feelings for one another)

The Iron Man series could work. "Hey, Grandpa, the Cold War's over. Or is it?"

Marvel had a LOT of Russian heroes and villains over the years. First because of the Cold War. And then "The Cold War is over. Now what?" There is potential in "Russia wants a seat at the table again."

Sometimes a lousy costume endures just from sex appeal. Psylocke's Jim Lee one-piece swimsuit. Huntress's Jim Lee hotpants-and-ab-window. Huntress's original one-piece swimsuit with thigh boots and a cape. Dick Grayson's hotpants and pixie boots.

Actually, now that I think about it, there are a lot of superhero costumes that are basically just swimsuits. Powergirl and the both Ms Marvel's (though Kamala's is modest enough that you forget it is literally a swimsuit) spring to mind. Then you also have guys like Namor, the Thing, and Iceman who wore nothing but trunks for years.

(Though Namor really ought to get a pass here for obvious reasons)

And before anyone asks the age-old question "what's the difference between a swimsuit and underwear anyway?", the answer is "Emma Frost".

Found a longer version of the solicit. They're reprinting Kraven's Last Hunt again (they have got to be in the double digits by now). Still no sign of the rest of DeMatteis' Spider-Man work.

Where is Conan and Savage Avengers? Seems like a lot of comics to still be all MIA. Did they lose the license somehow? Would be a shame. Savage Avengers is my favorite Marvel comic these days. (Tough competition for favorite comic because Justice League Dark is soooo good.)

the owner of my LCS said that both Savage Sword of Conan and Conan the Barbarian have been cancelled.

I asked Gerry Duggan on Twitter (because Savage Avengers is my favorite comic out there - Conan in the Marvel U is just so well done in that series). He said they are back to working on it and it will be back out soon, so I assume the other Conan stuff will too. There is a mini they were in the middle of and I assume other Conan arcs too.
