Real Life is one of the oldest running webcomics still around and updating (1999), and while it might have a super villain as a roommate, time travel, and a casual disregard for the fourth wall, there have been plenty of story lines where it's lived up to its name. The past three weeks have been perhaps the biggest, as creator Mae Dean has not only publicly come out as a trans woman, but also had a storyline detailing her realization. It's a story that's hit me in a few soft spots and had me asking myself some hard questions the past few weeks, and I think the people here on S_D might well appreciate it. Date: 2020-07-17 05:01 pm (UTC)Like many others, I didn't know that Real Life had come back from hiatus (two years ago now it would seem.. yikes!) so yes, a lot of catching up to do.
I've never been in Mae's situation, but I know enough people who have to realise how many of the points they've mentioned are also discussed here, and in an elegantly presented way, and today's strip was really rather lovely. (I wonder if Mae will be presented as Mae in the strip from now on, or will still look she used to until she moves forward?)
At any rate, I'm glad to know it's back and I'm along for the ride again. Wishing Mae and her family well.
This remains one of my favourite strips, when Greg is beaten at Dance Dance Revolution by a kid at the arcade. It's petty and cruel and I'd never do it in real life, but I think most of us would be tempted to (Okay, maybe just me, but I AM British and therefore evil)

i am assuming that maybe we might get a bit of a gradual progression dealing with how they bring it up to Liz and so forth...

Edit: Also I've been reading the Real Life Comics after the one linked and that Ranma joke is very good.
