
There's a certain class of bad guy whose job is to turn up in the opening act and get their heads handed to them in a couple of pages by the hero of the book or the hero team in the book, as like a "day in the life" thing, while they talk about setting up the real plot. And once you're on that roster, it's really hard to get off it, and I think the Leader was on that roster. He was somebody who was like a hair's breadth away from turning up in the first five pages of, oh I don't know, D-Man. [...] Villains turning incompetent is... it's really hard to get them back from that. And I was a little worried about the Leader because he's not had a good time of it over the years. He's been kind of... douchey over the years, and I wanted to make him dangerous again. -- Al Ewing
