Greg Capullo shares unused Endgame art

Greg Capullo shared a cover design he did for Batman: Endgame that DC ultimately rejected.



In a since deleted post he cited the "Lovers of Valdaro" as the inspiration, referring the two 6,000 year old skeletons from Italy that were found buried together in an embrace. Capullo said the image always stuck with him and thought it was perfect for Batman and Joker.

I'm glad it wasn't used because boy HOWDY am I sick of the "Batman needs the Joker" shtik that hack writers use when they can't think of a better motivation.

Except Death of the Family, also by the same creative team as Endgame, was all about how Joker needed Batman way more than the other way round.

If I had to hazard a guess, either editorial was afraid of gay jokes or that would have spoiled the ending.
