"Cole Turner has studied conspiracy theories all his life, but he isn’t prepared for what happens when he discovers that all of them are true, from the JFK assassination to flat Earth theory and reptilian shapeshifters. One organization has been covering them up for generations. What is the deep, dark secret behind the Department of Truth?"

"And the people would rightly rise up in fury, having been lied to by everyone for decades."

"... and this is a bad thing, because why again?"

Because an actual flat earth seems like it'd be more trouble than its worth

Accelerationism, eh? Well, I suppose "make everything worse for everyone," is one approach to making things better.

Because a belief-based system that retroactively and dynamically changes the fabric of reality can be incredibly destructive.

Imagine if vaccines suddenly DID cause autism for no other reason than enough people believed they did. Suddenly, what used to be a beneficial and routine flu shot becomes autism-in-a-syringe despite all the evidence proving it used to be safe.

And it WAS safe until it suddenly wasn't. Not because it was true before, but because it's true NOW.

And it happened because of ONE debunked paper written by ONE person.

It would be a VERY bad thing because all it would take is ONE person telling a lie for their own benefit and all of a sudden the fabric of reality was different.

Now imagine if someone knew that and weaponized it to sow chaos across the globe.

I'm imagining it.

It's beautiful.

Imagine if the person with whom you were conversing thought chaos was richly deserved by the vast majority of the human species.

then I would say they personally deserve the chaos, but not anyone else

Then I would imagine the person whom you're conversing with would call you out on such bs nihilistic views since it is wishing harm on everyone, including those who've done nothing to deserve it, because chaos cannot be controlled. Least of all through wishful thinking.

I would also imagine that the person whom you're conversing with would also point out the shortsidedness of such a belief since it is effectively anarchy, and anarchy is always a temporary state since people would eventually band together if nothing else then out of a pragmatic sense of self-preservation.

Been a long time since I've gone from hearing a pitch that makes me go "Oh, god, no no NO" to seeing a few pages and actually wanting more.

I do like that his response to subplot questions are not vaguely mysterious but along the lines of 'Dude, hold up. We'll get to that.'

Joe Kelly did a JLA story called Golden Perfect. Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth breaks and all truth becomes VERY subjective, causing reality to unravel.

If the Department of Truth wants to stop the power of belief causing all of reality to unravel, I can understand that.
