This really needs on of those "what ever happened to ..." stories where Jim Hammond/Human torch 1 goes to visit AL in modern times . She is 70 and hacking up her lungs from mesothelioma. She confesses a secret crush and that she only was a villain to get close to the Torch. She asks that they have sex before she dies (would an Android go for something like that ???).

I also think it's funny how the writer seemed to think the hazards of asbestos were somehow like uranium or something. And how they thought medication would help. Yes, special removing-microscopic-hooks-from-your-lungs medication!

What other hazardous materials were there for criminals and heroes to misunderstand? Seems like much of being a hero is ignoring warning labels. Great stuff for the kids!

Nowadays, they'd give her a reboot as Blue Sky Lady (in honor of the Wittenoom mine in that Midnight Oil song). She'd be magically immune to cancer, but she'd be able to give it to all her foes.

Gotta love the term she-criminal, and the bit about "the criminal possibilities of asbestos." I do have to wonder if the writer actually knew what asbestos did to people. The early symptoms of lung cancer probably don't include dizzyness.

I was also just thinking that its odd the Legion of Superheroes never had an Asbestos Lass turn up at some point, however briefly.

You know, it's quite possible that the Asbestos Lady is not actually wearing clothes made of asbestos - they could well be made of something else that only mimics the properties of asbestos, similarly to how Iron Man's armor is not actually made of iron. She could call herself 'the Asbestos Lady' simply because it's more momorable than 'Fireproof Girl'.

Even Roy Thomas, who wrote this story made a comment on the health issue in his Saga of the Original Human Torch mini-series. Asbestos Lady was an actual golden age character, and Roy was just going with the flow, fanboy that he is.
