It's the battle of the century in My Little Pony - Transfomers #3

And I don't mean the Rainbow Dash/Windblade race in the second story (though that's quite fun)

I mean the showdown between two of my favourite characters!







For the purists among you, the gorilla seen on this cover is not in the story (shame), but is a proper Transformer. He's Beastbox, a G1 Decepticon mini-Minicassette, who combined with his partner Squawktalk to become Squawkbox!

Following the events of issue 1,Soundwave arrives just outside the treehouse belonging to Fluttershy, Equestria's living embodment of Kindness, and her best friend, the literal chaos god Discord, who can reshape reality to his rather whimsical mood.

(Their relationship is based on Fluttershy's absolute belief that everyone, even a disruptive Chaos god, have a good heart at their core, and whether by inspiration or just embarassing them into it, she is nearly always proved right. Discord genuinely cares for Fluttershy more than anyone else in the universe, and is trying to be a better draconequus as a result (Thinking of Discord as "Star Trek's Q with hooves/horns/feathers" is easier than you'd think, given his voice is John DeLancie)

With Discord denying any involvement in the creation of such a weird... thing.... and the local critters, who Fluttershy looks after, make a beeline for the treehouse, Fluttershy is curious.



I have to say, I adore her reaction, it's COMPLETELY Fluuttershy! (and these are the G1 cartoon cassettes, so apart from Frenzy here, and Rumble, wherever he is, she's not wrong.)



The Decepticons are not convinced.... and Discord instantly distrusts Soundwave, who he senses is another shapechanging trickster. (Again... from a certain point of view, he's not wrong)

Things go downhill from there: while Soundwave clashes with Discord (Who turns himself into a robot, because why not?) Frenzy and the Casseticons try to intimidate Flutteshy and the critters.



Fluttershy, being Fluttershy, is still determined to see the best in everyone and notices that Ravage has a "boo boo".



(Nice little dig at the trend towards battele damaged repaints there I suspect)

And now comes a page that I had to include in it's entirety (it's a ten page story, so that's a lot, but it's pivotal.



It's a beautifully constructed page, you can HEAR the slo mo sound FX, can't you?

There was an X-Men comic I posted from a couple of weeks back where they describe Cypher as "the mutant equivalent of Bambi"... Fluttershy is the MLP equivalent of Bambi's gentler, kinder best friend... so yeah... aside from the fact Frenzy has just made a violent move towards the single kindest, most compassionate creature in the whole of Equestria and one that pretty much NO ONE has a bad word to say about, you've also just made a violent move towards someone Discord cares about....

But Fluttershy is not without a temper, though it takes a lot to produce it. She has "the glare" (tm) which has made fully grown dragons cower.



I love that Ravage, Ratbat and Laserbeak are "Screw it, we may be Decepticons, but you do NOT HURT FLUTTERSHY IN OUR PRESENCE!"

Luckily, a slight misunderstanding about words means that Fluttershy thinks that they really DO want friendship. (You want to see how it works, buy the comic), And Soundwave, being nobody's fool, sees that an army of critter-bots and Robo-Discord are enough to convince him that (and this may be the quote of the series)



And a good Decepticon knows when to just go with the flow, even if they don't understand it....

I suspect that if any Pony were to go to the bad, Fluttershy would probably be the most dangerous... though Spike with his many connections, would probably be more politically dangerous.

I mean Twilight is crazy powerful and Rarity really isn't a slouch in the connections department either but Fluttershy has a critter army, THE GLARE, and a Chaos God so, yeah, I'd say she has a good chance.

I remember Gen 1 Ratbat as a bit more bargain bin Decepticon commander, after both Megatron and Shockwave had been sidelined, rather than an unspeaking sidekick. But this is still precious. Yesss... we gots to have precioussss.

G1 comic Ratbat was the accountant of the team.

G1 cartoon Ratbat doesn't make many appearance but in the likes "The Call of the Primitives" he, like Ravage, Laserbeak, Ramhorn and Buzzsaw (and like Blasters animal themed cassettes) behaves like an animal rather than a sapient being.
