It's about Kat Somerville and her daughter, who open the first issue living in Chicago.
The news of Kat's estranged mother's death gets Kat to put herself, her daughter and their stuff on a bus out of town.
" Funerals are scary. " Sybil said, looking out the bus' window as it went.
" No, they're not. You'll see. I've been to a few. "
" Who? "

(That's a bruise on Kat's eye. She's not Domino.)

They saw Comfort North, Kat's hometown, population 3,533 and " Home Of America's Prettiest Autumn ".
Off the bus, Sybil marveled and Kat remembered.

(" Mistress Explosion Destroyer " is an in-joke between Kat and Sybil, concerning the latter's intermittent explosive disorder.)
Kat found the funeral home where her mom lay.
She thought about her mom for a moment, then went to go get her daughter.
She found Sybil in a ring of children.
' Do I remember this song? I think I do. '

She considered the drawings.

" .. there she goes. "
Kat and Sybil went to the funeral home, where one thing stood out.
" Where's the photo? "

Kat, Sybil's hand in hers, looked down upon her mother's casket.
" Mom. "

Kat looked around -
" Creepy lady gone. Good.
" Face-to-face one more time. " -
then opened the casket.

(The bags're on the bench behind her.)
