That's got to be at least a top-ten entry for "word count of a soliloquy delivered when the speaker really should be focused on keeping himself and his allies alive." But there's a ready-made excuse! Brainiac 5 is a super-hyper-uber-genius and has access to 31st-century recording tech. He could probably record this whole thing in half a second, while dodging Super-Parasite and moving to check on Conner.
Sure would be nice if we put that explanation in the text.
I'm of two minds about Lois Lane vs. Marisol Leone. On the one hand, the way Leone comes charging in with a firehose of lies is one of the most Trumpish things I've seen in comics; on the other, aspects of this story's overall pacing make me unsure we'll be able to deal with that idea in a satisfying way. But I remain cautiously optimistic.
I mean, I've read a lot of comics when people talk in whole paragraphs while in mid leap. This isn't just a Bendis thing. His people usually just sit or stand there when they ramble for several pages.
Well, you're right. But over the course of the entire issue, this really was an epic-length discourse Brainiac 5 got going. There's paragraphs and then there's novel chapters.
I just figure Interlac has to be vastly more flexible and compressible than English, if a thousand different sentient species are using it for mutual real-time communication. The Coluans and other space nerds probably employ dialects that can express The Origin of Species in ten syllables.
Gaze in mingled awe and sympathy at the annual Galactic Popular Linguistics Symposium*, where millions of scholars clash over what "go sprock yourself" actually means when spoken circa 2920.10.14 by a [4,9)-gender Maltusian centorg to a 6-tentacled Gil'Dishpan. Both of whom are attending the Symposium, and they're already drunk and angry, so we look forward to next year's meeting!
oh this lady.... attacking superman is one thing.... he's got a moral code. You attack Lois Lane Kent.... and heaven help you not even the house of kent can save you.
