Date: 2020-11-13 08:22 pm (UTC)Oh, look. A "Wally West suffers" story. And after all that Death Metal saying we weren't going to have any more of that for realsies.
*angry sigh*
And that Generations one-shot... really feels like they just grabbed whoever was sitting around the offices to write it.
(And of course, it's got Kamandi. Gotta have your Kamandi in any time-travel story. Pretty sure it's obligatory.)

Date: 2020-11-13 10:00 pm (UTC)Moreover, it especially sucks that both Suicide Squad and Justice League have cool new Flashes, one who's disabled and one who's non-binary respectively, but neither of them is the subject of the Flash series.

Date: 2020-11-14 02:32 pm (UTC)It would've been nice if the illusion that things would be different this time had lasted more than five minutes.

Date: 2020-11-13 09:52 pm (UTC)All of the Batbooks dealing with the Magistrate's oppressive regime is interesting, but it seems like it's really a half-step towards the anti-establishment story that should be happening here. I find something so dreadfully uncool about these sorts of cyberpunk-ish stories which want to do "heroes vs dystopian establishment" but insist on bolting a fictional oppressive structure overtop of the real world.
The text for the Grifters backup story in Dark Detective #3 seems to suggest that the new Batman might not be Luke Fox after all, since Fox is set to appear in Grifters. Interesting wrinkle. On the subject of backups, I'm a little put off by how scattered they are. The Next Batman #3 has Outsiders and Arkham Knights (sidenote: how weird is it that DC is still trying to hang some working concept on Arkham Knight(s) to capitalize on a game that came out five years ago now?) work as backups, but #4 has Batgirls and Red Hood. I'd rather just have one-shots with the stories I'm interested in than read the stories carved into backups across non-consecutive issues.
Across the board this mini-event really seems to highlight which parts of the the DCU take priority and which get books as a matter of course. Teen Titans and Flash both seem like they're just here because DC's committed to putting out books with those titles. Meanwhile the Batbooks have a consistent direction and mythology.
I've made my distaste for Murphy's White Knight stuff clear, but I'm so morbidly curious about the glimpse of his Red Hood on that Harley Quinn cover. I'm desperate to see what he does with Jason Todd as a troop-cop Batman successor given the pro-cop politics of White Knight.

Date: 2020-11-13 10:04 pm (UTC)By the way, can someone explain to me the Future State will tie in to status quo. Is it a reboot and then the stories just go from there? Is there no present? What is it, essentially?
