Did Scott and Jean just quit? Again?

Wow, yeah, seeing someone referred to as one would a particularly well-behaved dog is really heartwarming.

Well, Magneto is canonically at least 90 years old: we're probably all kids to him by now.

(But yeah.)

"Excellent. My cunning plan to horrifically mismanage Krakoa from the start so that Cyclops would reform the X-Men out of irritation is working perfectly!"

Hmmm..appears Scott learned something from all those years of being a ruthless, the ends justify the means, the many over the one, type of leader. (It does not work.)

I mean it did, but Cyke was always better at balancing moral hazard than Xavier or Magneto.

Yeah, Scott kept the mutant race alive at great personal cost.

You have to figure he asks "at what cost?" when he sees the current state of things.

Yeah, poor Cyke. He went through hell - and now he has this magical world, only to discover its not quite what he expected. He's the true believer who keeps discovering the man behind the curtain isn't as powerful as he thought.

Agreed. Possibly because he was always in the field - often in the middle of the battle. Unlike Xavier or Magneto, Cyke felt the deaths of his team mates. And in order for the team to work - they had to have each others backs no matter what.

It's kind of the difference between a King who declares war, and the guy who leads people into battle. The King doesn't know the individuals involved. He doesn't know their faces. And he probably doesn't care. While the person who leads them into battle - has to care.
