I was aware that after The Wicked + the Divine, which basically laid out The Problem Of Stories over 51 issues, I could likely start new work with that as a given fact of the fantasy world. “The world is haunted by feral stories” is the line Bridgette uses early on, and I suspect that’s as good as we get. -- Kieron Gillen

You know, if I were a tough old hero working my way through the Beowulf monsters, I wouldn’t be terribly worried about Grendel’s mum showing up, but I’d be awfully concerned about the dragon, whose thing is killing the aging hero and leaving the lesser, younger one to carry on.

They actually reference the dragon in the story, but the set up is a bit twistier than expected.

I'll just say that Bridget should have been much more alarmed about what transpired than she was. Even if she didn't know that Merlin was weaponizing mythology.
