Oh, an old flame inserted from another continuity, with a grueomesly murdered child (who might notionally be Bruce's I suppose)... this looks like it's going to be ticking a lot of boxes I really don't care for.

The art looks stunning though...

The way the Phantasm mask is drawn here looks bizarrely close to the Punisher's logo. Its original depiction ever gave me that sense.

Will this Phantasm have any connection to the Reaper, given their obvious similarities?

A tricky one, given how the Reaper plotline inspired the movie Phantasm so much.

That being said the Nu52 HAS featured a Reaper who looked vaguely like the original in a sort of cameo I think, but no mention was made of a backstory, so the Judson Caspian Reaper might well be out of continuity.

I suspect there might be a mention of taking him as inspiration though.

In my defence, Overwatch Reaper looks pretty much exactly like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Overwatch Reaper were not influenced by the cartoon version in some small way.

I was thinking of getting this one because I adore Bat/Cat, but no, nope, don't want to read about dead children.

Yeah this strikes me as yet another editorial problem in comics. Like, titles that aren't just a standard hero or team should give you atleast a hint as to what to expect. But instead of Batman/Catwoman actually telling you that it's about Batman AND Catwoman it's just seems like a placeholder title for a normal Batman story that just happens to have Catwoman in it?

Having read the actual issue, it's actually more Catwoman than Batman.

At this point, I'm assuming King's next storyline is bringing in Madison so that Bruce and Seline can make out in front of her.

I mean, I'm one of the few who doesn't even care that much about the Mask of the Phantasm, yet I'm kind of finding this pretty tasteless.

Heck, she almost has to exist for Batman Beyond.

I was so sure that Phantasm has been in the comics before and I figured out that Batman Beyond is exactly what threw me off. The series she appeared in was back when the BB comics were still set in the DCAU continuity, not the current ones that established Terry in the New52/Rebirth canon.

So now I'm just thinking about that Bendis mini where all of Matt Murdock's exes have children that look just like him and it's never commented on.
