Ghostmaker is also revealed to be Asian in this issue. It’s nice to see Tynion adding new representation given how there aren’t a lot of significant Asian characters in DC.
Nah. Harley is an acrobat, and her legs and torso are free. She can very easily get out of this one.
I feel for the kid. Even if that horrid story where Harley blows up hundreds of children is not canon anymore (thank God), she still directly enabled the Joker to commit many murders. Yes, she was his victim, but that excuse only goes so far. By the 378242th time she breaks him out and he kills a bunch of families, I'd say it's out.
Plus, I'm not 100% sure if that story where she butchers a flight attendant for losing her luggage is still canon or not. I'm assuming it isn't.
However, Harley now is for all intents and purposes redeemed, and she has been helping the heroes save lives. There are kids who still have their parents because Harley was there to save them.
Maybe that's the angle Bats should go for. Instead of "Bao, you can't kill her because revenge is wrong!" say something like "Bao, she has been saving innocent people!"
Yes, arguing for the redemption of a potential victim is a far better strategy than touting moral superiority. I guess continuously using the latter as the basis for not killing the Joker and having everyone bow to that approach has somewhat distorted Batman's skills!
I don't think anybody, let alone the writer, thinks this scene is about Harley. Of course she is going to be fine. Not only is she going to be fine because there is no way in hell that a new character could kill a popular established character, but also because she is an acrobat and her legs are free.
This scene is about the new character. If you like him (I do), and he doesn't hold back from trying to kill Harley while she is redeemed and "defenceless," then he's probably going to end up dead as a (extremely patronising and hack-y) cautionary tale about the No Kill rule.
Still, the issue should not end like this. This plot would be perfect as a single issue, opening with them locke din the room, going over their problem and resolving it by the final page, with no scene changes to other characters. It's the presentation more than the content that is at fault here.
