This is from The Haunt of Fear #15.





Jacob is terrified at the idea of being buried alive and after seeing his wife on the phone comes up with a solution. In the case of another fit he arranges to buried without being embalmed and with a connected phone in his grave. Sure enough, he soon has another fit which results in a car accident. The coroner assures his wife the accident killed him and it's not another fit and he is buried alive.


 
He tries to call his wife who is on the phone talking to someone else, his brother who is not home and his doctor who is talking to a patient. He finally tries the operator.

Why would they just not, you know, give him like a full week before they decide to bury him?

Also, they didn't embalm him or anything? How much of a hurry where they in to bury this poor guy?

And why not, I don't know, bury him in a mausoleum with a glass coffin or something with air holes that he could get out of?

This whole setup is just goddamn ridiculous.

Methinks the widow might've said, "Oh, don't bother to give him a full week. Just bury him." He probably had a nice life insurance policy. ;)

It does seem like they were pretty quick to bury the guy.

I mean the doctor was like "No he's totally dead this time I'm sure." Even though he wasn't really dead the last time.

Why would you not wait after this happens the first time?

Gotta say, not one of the finer twists to be had from these old horror stories. At least in the pages shown there's no setup for this as any sort of karmic justice, and the circumstances are all too specific and nonsensical to be effectively creepy.
