Cates has gotten some backlash lately, but he is to be commended for turning the generally extra Eddie Brock into a nuanced, vulnerable, and relatable figure.

Aw, did he do something wrong? This book and the Venom movie are probably the only times I actually liked Eddie as a main protagonist.
