I mean, his alternate universe counterpart has become a god destroying all existence; that makes him, what, a demigod by association? That should cover weddings at least by any theological denomination.
If it's meant to be Bruce, then it's horribly out of character. Although considering the relative ages, if that's not only adult!Damian but also a seemingly younger Jason I'm even more confused.
I know Dick/Babs is a beloved ship, but at this point it's starting to feel unhealthy. Dick is acting like he can always get back with Babs whenever he wants, because she'll always take him back. And, she kind of always does. The only time Dick makes a move towards commitment is when it looks like he's out of time to get Babs back - when they're literally the end of existence. This is Dick's third marriage proposal, after Final Crisis and Convergence.
Meanwhile, Babs' comic book eidetic memory leaves her unable to move past her first love. Gail Simone established Babs perpetually remembers not just every event, but also the emotional context. It was in the context of Killing Joke being even more traumatizing, but it also means she perpetually remembers falling in Dick for the first time, unable to move on, no matter how many times this relationship hurts her. That's why she's really never had any other serious love interests* - she literally can't move on. They're both trapped by the past.
Please, feel free to argue against this. It's just an interpretation I thought of reading this. I'm not even saying it's right.
Like him or not, Jason Bard probably has to count as a serious love interest, but since reformed Bard was basically a more tarnished version of Babs' dad, he may be the exception that proves the rule. Both are figures who echo Babs' early life more than they seem to represent her future. Dick and Babs haven't even lived in the same city since he became Nightwing. Bard (PICK ONE):
a) apparently vanished from even eidetic memory as soon as Babs' series wrapped b) never learned Babs' secret identity despite her having literally no reasons left not to tell him c) was just SO BORING, OH MY GOD d) seemed not to have clear ideas about his own path beyond, you know, "not being an asshole any more."
Elsewhere in this very same issue, Dinah says, "When the man I love asks me to marry him, I want it to be in a place of hope. With all the options in the world, and he still chooses me." Smart woman, that Dinah.
"For love" lol As much as I like the concept of Oracle/Nightwing (the disabled bookworm getting the hottest guy on her planet), I despise post-Flashpoint Batgirl/Nightwing, in part because Nightwing has acted like a jerk and bordeline abusive to both Babs and Kory, and in part because post-Flashpoint Babs is a pale shadow of Oracle.
So despite supposedly being about the "Bat Family" not a single appearance by Kate Kane, Duke Thomas, Harper Row, Cassandra Cain or Luke Fox
But oh goody two cishet white people got to rehash their incredibly tedious relationship for the billionth time because I'm certainly not bored rigid of Dick and Barbara's Ross and Rachel in spandex song and dance.
I'm looking forward to Future State more and more. From the solicits it looks like there will be more diversity and representation in a single given issue of any of the various miniseries than we've seen in this entire dull, bland and tiresome event
Plus it will be mercifully free of the "Batman who Laughs" and that Robin King brat, two of the dullest and most irritating villains DC has created since Superbrat Prime and his pathetic temper tantrums in Geoff Johns "Writing"
I am strongly suspicious against Future State given that the initiative a) mostly ignores pre-existing characters of colour, instead inserting newly-created characters into the biggest roles and b) the whole slate of characters seems to not feature a single Asian character, other than Cass being in a Batman back-up and Damian maybe-possibly being the Red X.
You're right - there's only room for a finite amount of characters of colour in any setting, and anything done with them should first and foremost reward fandom's preconceptions and understandings of that setting and its characters.
Characters introduced specifically for events are forgotten as soon as it ends - such was the case with Future's End original characters and DC One Million characters before them. Gender, ethnicity or other factor dont matter. Meanwhile pre existing characters have fans who will remember their semi-canonical appearances. I'd much rather have something new done with these characters, adding to their depth, rather than coming up with new characters who will be eventually forgotten.
These are reasonable concerns. I am hopeful that with the news that some Future State characters will be appearing in ongoings even after the event ends that this means these new characters won't just be forgotten/never seen again after the event ends and that many of them, most especially characters who aren't white and who aren't straight/cis will stick around
The lack of asian characters so far announced appearing in the books is deeply dissapointing...I hope when the books come out we see that change
Something I am very happy about though is Jo Mullein now being the Green Lantern on the Justice League. A black bisexual woman being featured in such a role is wonderful to see and as she is a character who exists in the present day as a Lantern I'm hopeful we might see her join the League in the present as well
I might have worded the comment somewhat confusingly - by biggest roles I mean in-universe central roles of the most powerful and important players without prior exposure to the characters as anything but the most important people.
Am I the only one bothered by the fact that black lantern rings have suddenly become a magical bring everyone back from the dead device? The whole deal with them in Blackest Night was that the rings downloaded people's memories to make them smart evil zombies, but the people didn't actually come back to life.
Can someone explain to me where this sits in terms of canon? I thought this stuff was pretty much ignorable, but idk if this is meant to be like... happening? But I guess it's getting hit with an impending soft-reboot anyway...?
