Champions #3

'I’m not as much interested in the whole “There are two sides! which one are you on?!” thing. I’m more interested in… let’s say you have a certain political stance on something, something you believe to your core, and there’s a friend with you, someone you deeply love and care for, and you want the best for them, and you see that they have a different perspective, not because they’re bad or they’re unintelligent or need to be convinced, but because they’re actually a different human with a different life that means they’ll be differently impacted by whatever happens? What do you do then? This is less a story of the teens going to war with each other as much as trying to figure out how to care for each other across real difference in an environment of terror.' - Eve Ewing

It was late in Zub's second run (aka the 2019 series)

Date: 2021-01-01 01:46 pm (UTC)After that awful Uncanny X-men run that tried to turn him back into a spineless and pathetic coward that wanted to play nice with bigots and oppressors I'm so glad that the current comics have given us back the awesome "Fuck the police" Cyclops that I came to absolutely love when Gillen and Bendis were writing him
This is also an example of why the X-men will always be better than the Avengers for me. And a great example of one of the things I love about the current X-men status quo as well. No more kid gloves. Just straight up tells these jackbooted pieces of garbage "Here's the line in the sand. Cross it and our people can and will annihilate you"

Date: 2021-01-01 04:49 pm (UTC)For all my problems with modern X-Men, they're generally much better at looking after their own than the Avengers.
Sure there are exceptions like Storm and the Morlocks but I could be here forever listing times the Avengers have failed their own.

Funny thing is, if you see Champions (2019) #5

Date: 2021-01-04 12:31 am (UTC)In that issue, a War of the Realms tie-in
Date: 2021-01-04 04:53 am (UTC)Alex: "You have fun on your trip with the teeny-boppers?"
Scott: "They needed help."
Alex: "Yeah, and what about us? You're just lucky things were quiet here while you were gone. What the hell were you thinking?! We're supposed to be a team."
Scott: "I know. That's why I went... because my team needed me."

Date: 2021-01-04 08:00 pm (UTC)these other teams? when have they come to help the x-men? legitimately taking their side agains others, not "Well, why don't both of you guys calm down and let's try talking this out."
visually speaking... essentially, something like this scene itself.
other teams have stood BETWEEN both parties and told them both to calm down. The X-Men are the only ones i have seen to what scott is doing, standing between, but WITH one side.

Date: 2021-01-01 05:35 pm (UTC)I mean at this point the question is which supervillain is actually behind this. I would say Nanny, but she's kind of busy in the Hellions book. So.... I don't know the Boogeyman? Granny Goodness and this is an unexpected DC crossover?
Also that scene with making Bombshell publicly decry the Champions, very obviously doing so under duress, makes me sick to my stomach. Go fuck yourself Speedball.

Well, I say 'surprising'...
This is an event where nuance and subtlety were told not to bother coming in on Monday.

Date: 2021-01-01 06:38 pm (UTC)I mean even though we've all agreed Civil War was a horrible event, the whole "The New Warriors were responsible for Stanford because something something irresponsible" kind of stuck.
And even if it didn't, it would make sense Speedball would still blame himself for that happening.

Date: 2021-01-02 01:24 am (UTC)I know, I know, characterization in comics these days is usually a roll of the dice and Speedball is often written as a (well-meaning) doofus, but it just seems that putting a teenager through the sort of situation that should be reminding him of what he went through.
Because that's exactly how it started for him.
