Carol Danvers using magic.
... okay, then.

'bout freaking time the Guardians got some more Skrull representation.
Way behind on that front.
(well, 'cept if we count Replica, but that'd require acknowledging the original Guardians, and that's clearly madness.)

Not sure about having Hulkling and Wiccan on the team. Thematically, yes, Teddy makes sense, and where he goes his husband's got to follow, but... hem...
... still, makes more sense than Iron Man, or Kitty Pryde or Ant-Man.

also that jacket looks ridiculous on Rich.

I'm hoping that they basically expand the Guardians into a well... legion, if you will. I've seen a lot of characters represented in the various alt covers, so maybe this means the team will basically run with a rotating roster as needed. Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Moondragon, Martyr, Nova, Quasar, Super-Skrull, Hulking, Wiccan... I suspect Al wants to take things to the next, bigger level. Why not do the whole "You're all Guardians when we call you."

Some sort of legion of... super-heroes? An interesting thought...

Marvel have occasionally (okay, since '14) tried to market the Guardians as the Cosmic Avengers. Not sure about them going full-on with that, since the Guardians being a small ragtag bunch has always been Their Thing, right from the original team, but if anyone could make it work, it would be Ewing.

Mind, it's always nice to not just have a writer doing a cheap rehash of the films.
(Kind of surprised he hasn't had a version of the original team show up yet.)

The original team in the 31rst century did expand once and was clearly heading in a legion style direction.

That was indeed Valentino's plan.
Then he left Marvel.

(Age of the Sentry also had the Guardians as a Legion knock-off, because of Age of the Sentry was like that.)

Yeah, I'd like that direction too, especially with all the space-related wack that's happened in the last couple years cosmic-wise. And really pumped super-skrull is joining. my only question is where are Hercules and marvel boy? They could still be there, but I'm hoping they stick around.

Finally concluding Coates' Black Panther, I see. Well, supposedly, who can say if it'll get pushed back. The year-long gap preceding the final two issues has sapped whatever momentum the series might have had (which... doesn't seem to have been much, honestly, the buzz around the series seemingly evaporated by the time it got to the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda) so hopefully it reads well in trade. Personally, I picked Coates' run during Comixology's Black Panther giveaway and have been holding off reading it because it's, y'known, missing an ending, so I'm looking forward to getting into the series. Hopefully it's worth the wait, but I'll always be curious about the delays.

The Guardians of the Galaxy announcement brings such mixed emotions. Who on Earth decided Brett Booth should be doing the rollout cover? First off he's a hack, second he's toxic. If the old boys at Marvel insist on throwing work to their buddies from back in the day in place of a retirement plan there are much more suitable titles. I said it about the last issue of SWORD, but this smacks of the pre-Immortal Hulk days when Ewing's series would just get screwed over and over by editorial.

Spider's Shadow look potentially interesting, and the revival of the What-If imprint as a more prestige-oriented series of minis certainly has my attention. Hopefully the series is written with a touch more of the modern take on the Venom symbiote as not necessarily evil. The whole thing just underlines the feeling that we all know Zdarsky should be writing the main Spidey ongoing though. (yes I'm aware of Spectacular, but that was a side series)

The Miles Morales Clone Saga thing just makes me tired. Ahmed's writing, particularly on Spider-Man, seems to have been going downhill since his (excellent!) debut with Black Bolt, and this looks like more of the same. A rehash of a famously despised Peter Parker story is not the way forward for this character.

As always, I am positively vibrating with anticipation for Immortal Hulk. Ewing has really leaned into "the big guy"/Savage Hulk as the mind of a scared child with the metaphorical strength of an adult, and seeing what happens when you completely strip out that strength is going to be interesting.

Spider's Shadow: What if... we needed four issues to tell the same sort of story we used to knock off in one? "Spider-Man keeps the symbiote suit, things get grimdark, people die horribly, Peter comes to a tragic end. And in the end, someone new picks up the red and blue to carry on the legacy..."

Yep I"m not interested in yet another trip down an awful reality.

Honestly I wish during the Symbiote could be heroic days we'd gotten an AU where Spidey and the Symbiote actually worked out just to be different.

Yeah, I do agree that if this is just gonna be a typical What-If deal but stretched out into a miniseries I'm not gonna be terribly impressed. That said, with it being Zdarsky and seemingly more of a prestige book, I think there's a chance that we get some of the kind of character work that classic What-If stories can gloss over.

I actually didn't love Life Story, but some of the stuff that he did with the symbiote and his take on Peter Parker (Peter being a bit of a jerk, understanding the symbiote even before Reed Richards does and choosing to continue using it) has me thinking/hoping that there's a chance this ends up as more than "poor Pete gets consumed by the bag space pants and eventually dies".

"This oversized anniversary issue lets the clones loose in Brooklyn and messes with Miles life even more than Peter Parker’s Clone Saga messed HIS life up."

Big claims Marvel, but I don't think Miles has enough ongoing series to really capture the experience of the original.
Besides it's not the same unless Miles parents have seemingly retuned from the dead, only to turn out to be robots, sent as a cruel trick by his evil (but now dead) best friend, causing himself to call himself The Spider and become more violent and anti-social....
