A newish character named Avril Kincaid, introduced back in the Standoff story arc. She appeared to die shortly after during Civil War II and has not been seen since.

Interesting. Ewing does really well with "discarded" characters so I'm sure she'll be my favorite character when these issues come to Marvel Unlimited.

According to the Old Father's Wikipedia (which... might be out of date) she was presumed dead after Secret Empire, and last mentioned by Wendell saying she was in fact not dead, just lost somewhere in space.

this looks fun. Much needed too as its clear Marvel has no fuckin idea of what to do with Doom after his Secret Wars status quo of being redeemed.

Hnnng. I am conflicted.
On the one hand, it's putting a character who probably shouldn't really be in the Guardians with the Guardians.
But on the other... 'tis Doom.
And, y'know, Ewing's writing, so it's a damn sight safer than Cantwell.

(and it makes more sense than putting Ant-Man on the team... Doom has experience with Cosmic Stuff.)

oh and avril's back. Maybe she can get some characterisation while she's here.

I'd be really hesitant about Doom if it wasn't Ewing, especially after his recent series where he killed an entire universe in front of Blue Marvel.

But I have faith in Ewing to do well.

I'm actually quite curious to see how Ewing writes Doom. If the quote at the end of SWORD #1 is any indication, it'll certainly be better than whatever's happening in the Cantwell series.

I expect Doom, like Maximus the Differently Sane, to be perfectly courteous to Groot. He is after all, fellow royalty.

I'm not entirely sure about that, the Groot miniseries from a while back gave a different retelling of Groots origins where he was kind of the runt of his species, and he was exiled from his planet for helping a little girl his people abducted escape. So I'm not sure Maximus' read on him being royalty is accurate.

Maybe only 7 and a half if we only give Moondragon halfsies because of recent events.

I'm really excited about Wendell being back. And Avril, too, I thought she got a raw deal. I can't remember if Herc & Quasar were ever Avengers together? They were both buds with Thunderstrike.

This is fantastic, and I am eager to see how this plays out.

The only thing better than a team where nearly every character is LGBTQ is a team where there aren't any cishets allowed at all

And I'm so happy to see that Avril Kincaid is back! She was a cool character concept but was poorly used (Imagine that, Nick Spencer utterly wasting a potentially interesting idea with piss poor writing...hard to believe isn't it...) and I think Ewing will do cool things with her

Doom being on the team is odd but I'm curious to see where it goes and what Ewing has planned here. I trust him to make this make sense and do something fun with it
