Again, I can see where the writer was thinking he was going and yeah, the "which country are we talking about?" bit is a clever touch. But it simply doesn't gel that well which is a shame as again, the actual concept is promising.

I swear, only in comics do writers think it's believable to have characters spitting out paragraph-long arguments between punches. Or ammo exchanges, as the case may be.

Well, comics and tabletop roleplaying games, anyways.

It's less obvious when the talker is a bulletproof superhuman. You'd expect a normal human soldier to be a bit more practical about his priorities. It makes Jamal look like an idiot to be discussing this while fighting for his life.

Plus guns are normally loud.

Going to historically nitpick here by noting that it wasn't Stuart that had beaten Brown, it had been First Lieutenant Israel Greene that had physically attacked and apprehended him Also, I can't help but notice how they make Brown look younger than he was. He was 59 at the time of Harper's Ferry and was completely grey.

Also weird that the little speech there he gives to Stuart, actually came from written correspondence with wife and children while he was in prison after the raid.

I think the latter is not uncommon in historical fictional retellings. When you don't know exactly what someone said at a given moment (or what they did say doesn't fit the themes of the story you're telling) you borrow from things they said other times, on the grounds that "At least it's the sort of thing they would say."
