Infinite Frontier made it sound like Wally was going to be The Flash again and they gave him Wally's hair, but they call him Barry in the issue, so...

I don't understand why DC insists on having Barry be Flash on the Justice League comic and then have all their writers/aritsts have him be Wally. Like what the actual hell, DC?

Bendis has also written Barry as sounding like Wally a lot in the past too, making it even more confusing. I mean, Infinite Frontier #0 tried to make it very clear Wally is the Flash now, but this they call this Flash Barry and it certainly sounds like the Flash series will feature Barry. Who the heck knows.

It's such a frustrating situation as I think a lot of the current writers now grew up with the JL cartoon, which had Wally. In addition to that, Wally actually has an actually interesting dynamic within the group while Barry is, you know, Barry. So it makes sense that those JL writers are drawn towards writing the Flash as Wally.

Except DC is, for unfathomable reasons, still committed beyond belief that every iteration of Flash needs to be fucking Barry. It is starting to be genuinely distracting in team books as it doesn't feel like the writers want to write Barry, but are forced to.

I totally agree, I grew up with Wally and prefer him to Barry. Hell, even the TV show Barry, who I'm also a fan of, acts a lot more like comics Wally half the time.

I grew up with Barry and I prefer Wally to him. (Though, to be fair, Jay Garrick is my favorite Flash.)

Yeah, it's telling that, when given a choice, most writers will either pick Wally or turn Barry into Wally.

Having said that, it should really be Bart or NuWally at this point. Sacrificing the Wally for Barry is some Silver Age nostalgia nonsense but sidelining Bart just kills any sense of forward momentum for a franchise that should always be about forward momentum.

The progression should be Jay, Barry, Wally, Bart, and then a series of new speedsters. It shouldn't be Jay, Barry, Wally, Barry, Bart, and then Barry forever. It's hard to be the fastest man alive when you're always going in reverse.

PS: Having said THAT I've always liked the lab coat over a superhero costume look. Since Batman isn't going to do it and the Atom isn't around, at least Barry is being fashionable.

I just wish that comic books started to include more than one token person of colour. Infinite Frontier seemed to tease an all-Black Justice League.

More and more, I miss Al Ewing's Avengers books, which were effortlessly featuring people of color with one or two token white people.

Hmm. That's a fair question. We don't generally count Green Martians or Blue Elves as people of color, but what about aliens who are visually human? There's no reason they should all be white, but neither does it feel appropriate to say that they represent actual populations...

(For my fellow Trek fans- you wouldn't call Spock a PoC just because he's greenish, but what about Tuvok?)

In defense of J'onn, he at least tends to be coded as black these days if actor choice is any indication. Still, he samples cultural identities like they're assorted chocolates.

Wow, the opening of this is like the anti-Cry For Justice. A Leaguer raises an opinion about how things are being run, and the rest of the team listens to them, reasonably. Nice.

Although I feel like Green Arrow and Black Canary haven't really -been- part of the League in ages. But that may be because of continuity getting fucked one way and another ever since Flashpoint.

The Justice League hasn't felt like the Justice League to me since Infinite Crisis anyway.

At least the Post-Cry For Justice team did something different and was mostly legacy heroes...until Flashpoint burned everything to the ground.
