The Turtles and April crawl out of the storm drain connected to Baxter Stocktman's lab.

Later the three remaining Turtles have gathered up what they can, and made their way to the surface.

They contact April, who picks them up in her van.

The police are on the lookout for a van used in a recent robbery. They start tailing April. The worried occupants try to loose them, starting a chase scene that lasts for the next ten pages. It made it way easier to choose material for this issue.

It ends when they run into the real robbers.

Deep in the sewers, Splinter is in a bloody mess. He remembers how the Mousers attacked his home, and forced him to flee. They tracked him down, but suddenly left before finishing him off (when Stockman recalled all the Mousers to his base). But Splinter is loosing his strength and seriously wounded...

Man, Krang was never going a win any beauty pageants in any continuity but the Utrom look so creepy here.

"I like how they have drinking straws."

On the one hand, it's a nice touch especially since their little tentacles don't look like they can lift much.

On the other hand, how do they use straws without lips?

It kills my suspension of disbelief in this comic about a rat ninja and his turtle sons.

Yeah these guys were statted up in TMNT and other strangeness as well, although this was before they were called the Utrom, in that book they were just "TCRI aliens."

I do say there is a steady escalation going on here. I mean aside from the mutated turtles and rat the first issue was fairly grounded where they were just fighting ninjas. The second issue had a mad scientist with robots, but the robots were relatively small and something that could conceivably be built in real life (Although they probably couldn't level buildings like the Mousers here could).

Issue three? Brain Aliens.

Also I should note that these entries have inspired me to read up on TMNT comics, but not these ones, I'm binging TMNT Adventures on Comixology, which are the Archie comics which were based on the cartoon.

Oh indeed. I just finished the second volume.

Which featured an issue where the Turtles get abducted by a disembodied cow head to an alien wrestling arena run by a pair of tree aliens (who are parodies of Donald Trump and Don King,) to fight a four armed dog alien.

And we also have Leatherhead, who in this continuity was turned into an Alligator man by a swamp witch for stealing her magic bauble....except said witch may be from Dimension X because Krang also knows about this magic bauble and wants it for himself.

Like I talked about this comic series escalating with introducing the brain aliens, but I think the Archie comics has them beat.

You haven't even gotten to the part where the Mutanimals fight the devil. Actually you might not at all. Those newer reprints only reprint some of Mutanimals and I think they skip all the other spin-offs.

Well I also know there's a point where the Turtles time travel and encounter Hitler....and convince him to kill himself because they trick him into thinking they're demons come to drag him to Hell.

You left out the best part which is that this didn't happen in the darker and more mature original comics but in fact happened in the Archie comics series which was based on the cartoon and aimed at a younger audience

So yeah

There's an all ages TMNT Archie comic out there where they go back in time and cause Hitler to kill himself

COMICS!

I really think Archie Comics does not get enough credit when it comes to quality writing.

Like a lot of times when you loan out your IP you can expect to get a cheap cash in. Not so with Archie, when Archie gets an IP t hey will spin some fucking gold out of it let me tell you, they put in the work when it comes to world building, characterization, deep storylines and themes.

I mean look at their work: Sonic, Megaman, TMNT, they do top notch work. They may be one of my favorite comic companies after Marvel and DC.

The Archie Sonic comics under Ian Flynn were so damn good

I was not a big fan of Ken Penders work but that was more to do with the extremely weird execution of it (With moments like "Knuckles is Jesus" and "Knuckles becomes a centrist and decides maybe the cyborg fascists made some Valid Points" and of course "Knuckles dad has a nightmare and so he MICROWAVES HIS INFANT SON" ) but he did at least come up with some interesting concepts that other writers went on to make better use of than he did

Well, I haven't read a lot of the later Archie comics so I can't comment on Ken Penders body of work too much.

I will say I don't like him as a person, since he was the asshole who sabotaged the attempts to make a Sonic SATAM movie, and then when he left Archie successfully sued to keep control of all the characters they made under his tenure (IE all his weird cyborg Echidna's and shit). He is a guy who is both weird and terrible and I don't much care for him.

"A guy who is both weird and terrible" is the impression I've gotten about him as well from what I've heard about his behaviour combined with his writing

You really do, there are sixteen volumes of it up on Comixology.

I main complaint about the collection is that they actually skip issues here and there, so you kind of miss some stories and characters, but you get most of the major narrative and arcs. Storyline wise its really good (even if the heavy handed Environmentalism message gets a little much at some points).

But its a good read.

I should mention they are on comixology unlimited, which is like six bucks or so a month. So if you have that you can read them all for free.

The escalation here is nuts. I can't imagine what this must have been like reading at the time.

The Utroms look genuinely scary here I think

That last page is like something from a Junji Ito manga
