I love the contrast of " the supervillain went some level of good " with " and this was the groundwork for the superheroes going bad in Jupiter's Legacy ".
Though with all his superpowers I do have to wonder if "Having a working pair of eyes" is what the Utopian had to trade away to get them because really now
Utopian: Walter, you promise you're not up to anything evil?
Walter, making a face like Dick Dastardly: If you can't trust this face who can you trust?
It makes even less sense with Skyfox. The last time he tangled with Walter, the team took Walter's side. Now Walter has privately admitted his guilt, and George has had years to plan his next move, so he:
baits Walter into another confession and records it, and/or tips off Sheldon to eavesdrop
provides his psychic blocker technology to Sunny and the team as a precaution, then asks them to do a psychological evaluation on Sunny
puts on his psychic blockers and attacks Walter in front of the whole team. Again. How did he think that was going to go?
"I just desperately want bad sex and a shitty boyfriend who treats me like garbage!"
- Mark Millar, showing off his keen insights into the female psyche
How can he so perfectly understand EXACTLY the way we think? It's UNCANNY. If I didn't know better I'd think he got hit by lightning while fucking about with a hairdryer in a lightning storm
I'm likewise frustrated by the divorce twist, but not because I think what she's saying is unbelievable. Some people really do not know how to cope with a partner who feels like a better person than they are on every level. The relationship stops being one of equals, feelings of inadequacy creep in... it's certainly not the most frequent couples' issue, but it can be a real thing. I'm a lot happier in my current relationship, where each of us can admit we're better and worse than each other in different areas, than I was with a crush whom I idolized so much that I was trying to be perfect for her.
No, this bothers me because it's so committed to being a surprise that it doesn't leave Jane any wiggle room to bring up this problem without going right to an instant request for divorce. I mean, this is clearly the first Sheldon's heard of his wife having any kind of problem with him! There's counseling, trial separation, maybe even just telling Sheldon the problem you're having and have him discuss it with his super-genius pal who can fix anything, but nope, we're out of space, #itsover.
In fact, that's kind of this series' overall issue with women. I don't mind that they mostly revolve around the men in Circle because, I mean, that's the era, but every decision they make is arrived at instantaneously, from getting with a guy to ditching a guy to taking a guy back to... uh... joining a teen group they'll age out of in three weeks. No wonder I can't figure out whether Sunny was actually mind-controlled or not, her kissing Walter is no more or less abrupt than any of those other choices!
That's kind of a problem with Millar in general, important personal development tends to happen almost entirely off-panel. Funny thing tho, the "time goes on" montage has a panel of them with her and she has to be at least close to her mid 20s at that point.
Yea...it feels like the Monty Python - "And look what you've done to mother! She's worn out with meeting film stars, attending premieres and giving gala luncheons."
I can see her wanting to have more normalcy but - this is abrupt as heck and not really explained. Also yea - her crying over the lack of bad sex - grumpy horrible men - and "I need to feed my self esteem issues." Like...what?
EDIT - I feel that this could have worked if she'd met someone else. Like a nice normal dude who she clicked with - but out of the blue with no other motivation...NAH.
If it was just her going "You're too perfect and I feel like I'll never measure up" it wouldn't be so bad but her saying that she needs a bad who treats her horribly and can't give her an orgasm just makes it seem like Mark Millar listened to the song "Women love a bastard" and didn't get that it was satire, not a statement of fact
A funny thing that occurred to me, on the first page, showing how her becoming tired of having perfect life, she mention he gives perfect orgasm EVERY day. Like, maybe if they tried doing it only every three days, the monotony would wear of?
Admittedly not a good idea, but on the other hand I think at this point they only have the one super-prison, and it's largely based on Skyfox's designs.
Tad distracted by how more than ever Jane is drawn like Mad Men's Joan.
I do see how they play it with Walter that nope, he has no guilt warping a woman's mind to be with him which plays into the later series' best part, which is Walter honestly unable to grasp that being the smartest man on Earth does not mean all your plans to "fix" the world are going to be anything but disasters.
So did we ever find out what happened to Skyfox and Jack Hobbs after this? I mean, Jupiter's Legacy opens with Walter alive and the economy just like ours, so I figure the answer is "nothing good," but those are weird threads to leave dangling.
We find out about Skyfox in the next mini. Don't recall anything about Hobbs, but there's one miniseries to be published, so maybe it gets answered there?
Ah, he was the supervillain they were talking about then. I was wondering about that. Mah, maybe he never was in able to stand against Sheldon. Or maybe he understood Walter was actually lying and he just didn't have the heart to make a widow out of Sunny and orphans out their daughters seeing them so happy.
Spoilers Below, and apparently I remember nothing about creating spoiler tags:
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Dunno about Hobbs, but Skyfox returns in the second Jupiter's Legacy volume. He eventually demands a 1-on-1 fistfight with Walter and then dies instantly. The whole thing is incredibly pointless.

I have a harder time figuring out the inconsistencies with the kids.
