I mean this isn't BAD - but I just feel I'm like - reading a rewrite of Anno Dracula with zombies wedged in.

I get kind of an "Edward Grey, Witchfinder" vibe to it, myself. Though I haven't read Anno Dracula.

Ah I can see that comparison.

Anno Dracula is - a series of books in an AU where Dracula won. He turned Lucy and Mina - the crew from the book failed to kill him (Lucy is still gone but sort of a martyr now) - and he moved on to marry and turn Queen Victoria and now vampires are the upper class. It's chic to be turned - vamps from other lands have come in to England since they are now accepted.

Interesting, I might have to check that out.

I don't know- if this was Anno Dracula I'd expect an appendix identifying almost every character as a minor supporting cast from anywhere in the last couple hundred years of popular fiction.
