It’s only when finishing issue 5 that I realised that Marneus Calgar is a love story, but it’s a love story between me and power fists. -- Kieron Gillen

With this series I can't help but think of the Comics Journal criticism of Kieron's writing forcing Jacen Burrows to do action scenes in "montage mode".

It's a general weakness of American comics I think, the low page-count and the monthly schedule forces writers to come up with ways of compressing scenes. If you can sell a fight-scene in a single gorgeous splash-page while conveying necessary plot and character information, do it, because you have a tight budget on pages and you want the reader to get their money's worth.

Kieron has gotten pretty good at that, but at the same time we don't get the crazy choreographed battles like a comic like Chainsawman gets because of it.

And a more choreographed battle would've suited Jacen Burrow's talents and the Warhammer 4k universe. We get nice shots of the cool over the top action, but it never indulges because there's plot to be had.

Not that it's an impossible challenge to put more action, choreography, in the comic. WE3 did a pretty decent job of it.
