Certainly the most visually memorable bit of news over the past few days was the transfer, in state procession across Cairo, of 22 Egyptian mummies (18 kings, 4 queens) from their current museum to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. I suspect their majesties would have approved of the sheer over the topness of it all.

Good news everyone! Eurovision will go ahead after all this year!

The treatment of Fisher on the set of this film is disgusting and a horrific reminder that Hollywood really hasn't changed much in the last eighty years.

News? Well, after a bit of a warm spell, we're back to me breaking the ice on the garden water butts again each morning. And I apparently missed frogspawning season round here too, other ponds have had spawn but mine were absent this year for some reason.

Other than that, the world is on fire and we can no longer even hope Asteroid Apophis will save us as NASA has now marked it as officially safe. Way to be a buzzkill, NASA. Although we do know something in our cosmic neighbourhood is ripping star clusters apart, we've got an extra solar comet which has come to us straight from another star and never passed near anything else except us before passing through the solar system, and Omamua [or however it was spelled] is confirmed not to be a cigar but a chunk of a Pluto-esque planet which had been ripped apart. So maybe we might be in luck after all, fingers crossed.

So one thing that's had me howling with laughter in the news this week

I can't stop laughing at all the pearl clutching morons getting so offended about Lil Nas being SO SEXUAL and SO VULGAR and doing their best Helen Lovejoy impressions as they squeal and whine about it like the annoying little nitwits they are

It has really exposed how some people are only willing to pretend to like LGBTQ people if we pretend to be pathetic sexless fucking eunuchs who are so middle class and boring and devoid of anything approaching lust that we make the dads from Modern Family look racy by comparison

What I find especially pathetic is that even some gay, lesbian and bisexual people have been whining about it saying that it makes it harder for straight people to "Accept us" as being "Just like them"

Personally?

I don't give a fuck about being accepted by people who I don't give a shit about anyway.

And I'd rather drink a coffee cup full of drano than be anything like straight people are

I'm not some Log Cabin Republican dipshit who wants to live in some white picket fence shithole surrounded by unfuckable soccer moms and "men" who are as dead behind the eyes as they are from the waist down

I am the kind of queer who wants to get fistfucked by multiple women in latex in a sex club, with a butt plug up my ass and a ball gag in my mouth. I’m glad you’ve found something that gives you joy and this controversy around Lil Nas X’s video seems silly from what I’ve heard, but not everyone can be as open about or comfortable with sex as you. Heck, what you describe here sounds more to me like a you thing and not really something exclusive to queer folk.

The last time I watched Eurovision, it seemed like all the fun had been sucked out of it. Where were the Russian grannies, the Finnish death metal bands and all that mad shit?

Polish governing party is so in-your-face evil that if I read about what they do ten years ago I’d dismiss it as bad writing. Last week’s digest:

-the bill that was to replace the Stambul Convention on Rights of the Women (tldr: little actual protection, but bans all abortion, gender transitioning and legal recognition of queer people, including adoption of children by single queer people) passed in the parliament. It needs to pass the second instance to become law.

-the ongoing census doesn’t allow for listing ethnicity other than Polish and religion other than Roman catholic, and of course doesn’t recognize same sex relationships or transgender individuals. At this point it’s a joke. Multiple organisations call to postpone writing it. Given that everything in Poland is a chaos, most people probably are not even aware a census is happening.

-the parliament passed a law allowing for unlimited tree cutting in national-owned forests, including parks. It passed with the voices of opposition, including the Green Party. I'm at the loss of words.

-among European nations, Poland fares the worst against the coronavirus. The government’s project was first to vaccinate „group zero” (medical employees and the elderly over 60 y/o). Until they are all vaccinated, no other groups can be vaccinated. Group zero is still not fully vaccinated, partly because a „vaccine mafia” developed, stealing the vaccines and selling them on black market.

- parliamentarian comitee for crimes against children finished its work, and the result? One page long document saying that raped children did not commit a sin by being raped and will enter heaven. This is a joke. They got paid 100k PLN to write it.

-the minister of education is „studing” early education study books to purge them from „leftist propaganda”. What is said leftist propaganda? Sentiments like those mentioned below:

-”Not everybody is a Pole, and people who are not are people the same as us, so we need to treat them with kindness.”

-”Not everybody is European, and that’s alright. Every person can be our friend.”

-”Not everybody is catholic, and that’s alright, it shouldn’t impact how we see each other.”

-”Some people are disabled, and we should treat them with respect and kindness like every other person.”

-”We need to treat animals, wild and domesticated alike, with kindness.”

-”Whether you are a boy or a girl, you should help your parents with house works – it can be fun!”

- Why would somebody think it’s evil? When he wants to protect his friend and party colleague who is known for extremely antisemitic views, is violent against his wife whom he had cheated on with a young adult woman, and most notoriously recently killed his dog with extreme cruelty, which was recorded on camera. At this point I believe that the only ideology PIS has is „we want all the power and everything else is lies so that people give us the power we want”.

-speaking of antisemitism, a priest professor recently talked how… blood libel trials are legally binding and the fact that they happened proves blood libel is a thing. For context, last legal blood libel trials took place in Poland in mid 18th centry and were banned shortly before the nation was destroyed, all more recent cases were simple mob lynches. What’s more infuriating, Catholic University of Lublin defends their professor and sues a rabbi and a Jewish Studies professor who refused to attend a „discussion” with the man.

-I am sick of snow. I want for it to finally melt. For almost half a year I have seen nothing but snow. It’s driving me crazy.It's nothing, but it's all I see from the window, and window is the only way I see the world. Fuck snow.

On a completely different topic, I’m getting angry at „representation” becoming the main lenses of discussion of stories in online communities. What do I have from representation when the story is shit? And recomended stories are almost always shit nowadays. It was much easier to find a well written book that way in the 00s, paradoxically, when much fewer people talked about books. I rarely read outside manga, comics and fanfiction in part because of that issue.I want to know what the story is about and if it is well written before learning that it has minorities A, B and C. Plus people screech about "dark content". Thanks, I'm an adult and know what I like and what I can take. Not to mention that on average "dark" stories seem to be somewhat better than "pure" stories, even if it's not a rule. I've read all of DC Ink books for example, but only 2-3 authors writing for them didn't suck.
Some questions to American users: is food eaten out in America generally so, dunno how to say it, shitty? Out of boredom I played around on a food portal and the quizzes and many recipes featured dishes I find both offensively easy to make (like, I'd be able to quickly cook more elaborate and healthier dishes) and offensively unhealthy. Despite it being a cooking website, the whole thing looked as if the creators never had a cook book in their hands.
Another food question - why are American sweet products SALTY? How is it possible to eat for ecample salty cereal, salty pie etc. ??

Only kaiju media I can recall really enjoying all that much are the Jack Black King Kong remake, Colossal, Firebreather, and Power Rangers. (Edit: oh, and the Blue Oyster Cult song) I don't really get the appeal of the genre because the stakes are so weird (absolutely not judging anybody who is, mind you)

Still planning on watching GvK because they fight on top of an aircraft carrier like a Street Fighter stage.

I'm excited to start Season Two of Pennyworth in a couple weeks (I know it's been out for a while- I'm scheduled to watch it on a week by week basis with my sibling).
