But at least it's leavened by the delightfully chaotic Eddie/Venom "double" act! :)
I have little interest in the comic Venom, and you KNOW this isn't my favourite Marvel alien/human gestalt, but if this is as much fun as the first Venom movie, I'll be happy.
Somehow I doubt it. While it could be cool, I don't trust the studio to think that far outside the box. Which is saying something, because Shriek really ought to be in said box to begin with.
EDIT: I sit corrected, Wikipedia says those two characters are in fact going to be in the film. Time will tell if either or both of them get to show off their comics powers.
Very excited for this one, the first Venom movie's weird "superhero movie circa 2003" vibes really worked for me, coming as such a contrast to what we usually see now.
I think there could be a lot of fun to be had by having Venom/Carnage's homicidally antagonistic parent/child relationship run through the "chaotic" weirdo energy that Tom Hardy brought the Eddie Brock/Venom and which will hopefully be matched by Harrelson's Cletus Kasady/Carnage. Really hoping that Harrelson gets to do a ridiculous monster voice to match Hardy's.
I wasn't a fan of the first Venom movie. It was basically all he beats of a typical MCU movie, but with a grimier aesthetic
Upgrade, which came around the same time, and even featured a similar looking lead (But one that doesn't have that whole Johnny Depp-esque "Why did you make me so good-looking, God?" thing), and had the more appealing aspects of the movie, whole truly taking it to dark and interesting places. (though not leaving much room for a sequel)
Upgrade was excellent. I particularly appreciated the action scenes, which were cool while emphasizing that the main character wasn't the one moving his body and what sort of entity the one moving it was.
One point no one else anywhere seems to be mentioning: Harrelson's hair looks a damn sight better here than in the post-credits scene from last time. Though I suppose it would have to.
My apathy for comics Venom is boundless, so my expectations for the first movie were zero, but it managed to impress me a whole lot more than I ever expected.
