In this comic that DC actually published, Frank Miller repudiates some of his most famous work, and is implicated in an attempt to assassinate a presidential candidate.

Yeah it’s bizarre. I have to imagine though that he was okay with it given there’s been no controversy over it.

Someone on Twitter guessed they might have wanted Alan Moore instead but since there’s no way he’d say yes they used Miller as a second choice.

What happens in the story is so specific to Miller's life that it's kinda hard to believe that would've worked unless it was originally a completely different angle, since having Alan Moore be portrayed as a New Yorker who was politically radicalized by a deadly attack on Manhattan would make no sense.

Yeah he’s describing the religious extremism of the terrorists…? Terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda and ISIS are barbaric and regressive.

He isn't talking about religious extremism, he is smearing an entire culture as barbaric and backwards - he is talking about a culture that can't build microphones and airplanes, what the fuck does this even mean in the context of a terrorist group? Like, bin Laden studied English at Oxford, his dad was a millionaire construction mogul. None of Miller's rant has anything to do with reality, it's just open and idiotic bigotry.

I’ve forgotten that Bin Laden studied English but even if he was educated he later started spouting regressive religious nonsense to oppress and murder people so fuck him. He’s still barbaric and so is Al-Qaeda. (I’d rather someone make generalizations when attacking the 9/11 terrorists than attacking the 9/11 first responders but I guess the latter is more accepted.)

Miller isn't even talking about bin Laden, or the 9/11 hijackers in the quote. He is talking about an entire culture, and making these idiotic bigoted claims like they could never make airplanes or microphones. You yourself forgot that bin Laden studied English when he was the son of a Saudi millionaire! This isn't 'making generalizations', it's just ignorance. It's just you making up a caricature of evil in your head, and ignoring the actual evil reality.

How much blowback did Ta-Nehisi Coates receive for saying that he watched 9/11 with a cold heart and that the 9/11 first responders weren’t human to him? Not a whole lot.

He made it clear even back then that he was specifically taking issue with Al-Qaeda. Even in the actual story the terrorists are only referred to as such. If he had grievances with everything there he wouldn’t have condemned Trump’s Muslim ban.

Amazing how that bile could come from a man who spends most of DKR and DKSA mocking 80's-2000's America, painting Superman as a government stooge, and eventually all-but stating modern America sucks so much only Lex Luthor could be behind it.

Like, wake the fuck up Frank. You were painting Batman basically as a terrorist entity fighting the corrupt state LONG before OWS came along. People aspiring for better living in general against corporate America and doing so in a largely peaceful fashion using fairly conventional tools for this day and age are not the bad guy; and it's not their fault no-one wants to massage your ego and tell you The Spirit was a good movie.
