It's good this story is not realistic... now. Dogs have microchips so the killer would be identified right away just searching for victims' dogs.

I think the dude is law enforcement or medic or someone who works close to these. ie. "Oh this is so tragic, poor boy. Boss let me give the victim's doggo a new home!"

If the killer lives in an isolated area with no neighbors and doesn't take them to the vet, there's no reason to think that the chips would give him away.

Yeah whenever someone goes “So this is [similar story] but with [different attribute]?” chances are there’s always something else that predates that one.

I just looked up the poster. Yeah, I could see that being an influence even down to the art style.

The art style is clearly old Disney cartoons and stuff of that ilk.

I mean early Disney is such a ubiquitous influence that it had an impact on old anime on the other side of the planet so ... sure, I guess.

Mostly I was just conceding that it looked more like a European movie poster than Jill Thompson's art.

And I’m just saying that I don’t think this story is copying either just because it has the idea of anthropomorphic animals in a horror/thriller setting.

Yeah. Although the Stranger Things font is itself copying old Stephen King covers from the 80s.
