I have actually speculated about the number of comics characters that must lack bellybuttons.
Shi'ar they are oviparous. Healing factor people don't usually scar. Adam Warlock and similar created beings. Eternals. Anyone who creates a body for themselves to inhabit. Everyone who does the Krakoa return process. Robots, syntezoids etc.
Synthetic & cloned mammalian beings might well have bellybuttons, because the umbilical cord and placenta are genetically part of their body, and there's no better system to deliver them oxygen and nutrients before they start breathing air. Presumably the cord is cut and sealed before they pop out of the egg or cocoon or whatever.
Oviparous vertebrates like birds actually have "bellybuttons" too--their umbilical just connects to the yolk sac instead of a placenta, and the navel scar heals up more completely. You can see it on a young chick. So perhaps the Shi'ar happen to have more prominent navels than the average bird, the same way they happen to look 99% similar to (sexy) humans in almost every other way.
Founded by girl geeks and members of the slash fandom, scans_daily strives to provide an atmosphere which is LGBTQ-friendly, anti-racist, anti-ableist, woman-friendly and otherwise discrimination and harassment free.
Bottom line: If slash, feminism or anti-oppressive practice makes you react negatively, scans_daily is probably not for you.
