The best part of silver age for me was the fact that Supergirl stories regularly used reader submitted costumes. This issue features costumes that never made it to the actual comics, but which I honestly consider the best Supergirl costumes - again, it's my subjective opinion. Some of those costumes were reflected decades later in the comics, but they were never adapted 1:1.

So many of them have pants! I love it!

I am amused at the bell-bottoms one.

That was the first thing I noticed, too! Nearly all of the ones designed by women have pants, or at least a leotard - better than a skirt for someone who can fly. Even a number of the male designers went with pants over skirts.

Raejean's is my absolute favourite, but Janet's is a close second.

I mean, it's basically Robin's original costume without the sleeves or gloves.

A lot better than the design they went with post-Crisis, in my opinion.

On a slightly different note, one of the things I liked about the Wasp was how she always went superheroing with a different costume almost every time, and I think that’s kind of unfortunate (albeit understandable) that that never really carried over into the modern day.

Plus if they make toys of all of them I can make them be parallel world versions and have them have a crisis on infinite earths team up :)

Y'know, I still haven't got around to the Ant-Man movies. I don't suppose there's any chance they kept Fashion Designer!Janet Van Dyne?

From what we do see of her, I don’t think so. Janet is unfortunately MIA in the first film. The second one’s all about getting her back so she only really shows up towards the end.

Raejean Finley’s design is really fun. I miss project rooftop, which had such inventive takes on costumes.

What is interesting is that despite how different they are they are clearly all Supergirl costumes. They're not playing around much with colour (maybe the designs were in black and white?) but you can do a lot with shape and cut.

I'm pretty sure we've gotten a version of Nicole Schneider's outfit (first page) at some point in the comics.

The fact so many of the sexier designs were sent in by women makes me feel happy to know that Supergirl had a thriving lesbian/bisexual fandom even before the CW show came along
