"I'm very, very thankful for all the support that we got for the Shang-Chi miniseries. I mean, the first two issues sold out. I'm thrilled that we get to continue the story of Shang-Chi and his siblings in the Five Weapons Society. We're going to show how Shang-Chi's brand-new role affects the rest of the Marvel Universe. We'll have him interact with old friends and new foes… and even old friends who become new foes." -- Gene Luen Yang

I am really glad that the upcoming movie means that we're getting more Shang Chi stories in the comics as well

He's a cool character and Gene Luen Yang has been doing a really good job with him I think

Hopefully the film will do really well and end up getting a sequel where we might see some of the newer characters appear there

I feel like there's easily enough story potential in the character and his allies and enemies to sustain multiple films :)

"What does your Spider-Sense tell you?'
"Well, it didn't warn me that old guy was going to turn me into a monster. One of these days, I need to figure out how this works...."

Shit like this really makes me wonder if the Sense isn't better off getting mothballed. As a storytelling device it seems to only be useful for ramping up tension two panels before the Threat comes on-page, and in modern comics you can get the same thing across just by sprinkling in a few panels of the Threat getting ready to pounce.

Yeah, it's wildly inconsistent and really most Spider-Man stories fall apart if you account for it... like the bit here with the old man.

On the other hand, Shang's line at the end works really well for two reasons. It avoids a pointless hero vs hero fight and also shows that he has doubts about which side he's on himself.

No-Prize attempt: Spider-Sense warns him of danger or harm to himself, and a root that increases your physical attributes while robbing you of all reason makes you a danger to everyone else but does not constitute danger or harm to himself

Plus the old guy was pretty quick and may have been good at masking his intent to do something untoward

Honestly I think it's just as likely he's ageist and doesn't consider old people a threat despite years of fighting the Vulture and Silvermaine. May Parker has gotten the drop on him more times than most supervillains. He always buys the Black Fox's helpless old man act.

I'm only half joking. We're all in constant danger IRL and I'm sure it's worse in the Marvel Universe where Atlantis attacks every other month and the usual air pollution includes Terrigen Mist. I have to imagine he has a non-stop low-level buzzing in his head that he's learned to ignore.

May Parker has canonically come closer to killing Spider-Man than some of his rogues gallery has

At the point Shang Chi uttered the words "supreme commander", I expected Spider-Man to say "Damnit, Otto! Not again!"

Nah, Otto would work "Master" or "Superior" into his title somehow.

That's true. And to be fair, there is no way he would be able to fake Shang's humility.

Loving Shang and his sister's interaction.
Her fondness for violence would be a problem in real life, but here, it's merely amusing! ... in a way that's only a little disturbing!

It would be just his luck that Shang-Chi happens to have a team-up with Spider-Man, probably one of the worst heroes to run into when you're trying to redeem your father's evil organisation, what with his extremely black-and-white view of the world.
About the only one worse would probably be Captain America... and even he'd probably try and give him the benefit of the doubt.
(Guessing that's where the "vs. the Marvel Universe" bit comes in. Peter is such a snitch.)

Daredevil would be cool about it.

Shang Chi reminds me a bit of Guy from Final Fight. I think it's mainly the attire.
