No he does not, because he's being an idiot here and the story acknowledges this
Abigail Brand calls him on his childish nonsense here and also tells Magneto to stop treating the base as a battlefield
Nova and Magneto make peace and part as allies and on better terms with each other with Nova admitting that he was just looking to hit something because he's feeling lost and anxious and he shouldn't have done it and Magneto admitting that he can be quick to anger
He may be being an idiot about it, but the thing is that Nova is absolutely CORRECT.
Magneto was directly responsible for the death of the two aliens, and has faced no consequences or justice for that.
It is not for Magneto to decide what laws beyond Krakoa apply to him. If he operates in space, he operates within the laws of the space empires there. That's not how politics, still less diplomacy, works.
As an agent for the Shi'Ar, Nova has every right to take Magneto to task for his actions involving citizens of the Shi'Ar who died. (Just as the Shi'Ar should be taken to task for their casual invasion of Earth to murder every member of the Grey family "just in case" a few years back.)
Nova calling him out like that in the middle of a display like this was a bad idea, but Nova is absolutely not wrong on calling Magneto out on the deaths he has caused.
But as Abigail Brand points out in this issue, the Shi'ar really don't care about the dead Subguardians. And the Shi'ar also value Magneto and mutantkind in general as allies
So Richa really is just spoiling for a fight here and really looking for an excuse however flimsy to start one. Especially considering that the Avengers are responsible for the deaths of TONS of aliens
And I'm pretty sure what the Fantastic Four did to the original Skrull invaders definitely violates some kind of Space Geneva Convention...
I'm not saying Rich is a bad person mind you or that Magneto is perfect. They were both being stupid here. But it's the Marvel universe, everyone acts like an idiot sometimes
Magneto is usually at the very least somewhat melodramatic but any time he's kicking someone's ass or about to kick someone's ass he really brings it to another level
Goodness, but without context of the full issue, Rich would look like a total jackass here. ... well, more of a jackass. (Love Rich, but even later on in the issue he admits this was pretty stupid of him.)
Maybe bringing the guy with serious psychological issues to a diplomatic function wasn't Pete's best idea. Should've brought Groot. (Or dug Major Victory out from wherever he's gotten to.)
He is currently in prison for his treasonous actions during Empyre where he sided with Teddy's villainous relative in her plan to impersonate him and use the Pyre to destroy earth as a way of defeating the Cotati
Last I recall was in 2010, during The Thanos Imperative. Then he just... disappeared.
Well, maybe just tell the people of Krakoa one of theirs is stuck in a fridge, sit back and watch the mayhem unfold as they tear space apart to find and free him.
this does raise an interesting question about Justice and Firestar, who, AFAIK, haven't weighed in on (much less been seen in general) the whole Krakoa thing.
Nova: "I'm going to engage in some ridiculous bad diplomacy because I just had to deal with Dr Doom and it *didn't* involve punching that ridiculous armor off his face."
Magneto: *gets confronted with past crimes that were blatantly his fault and blatantly morally wrong* "Clearly this man is racist."
Neither character comes off looking great, but it is sort of funny to have a far removed Marvel character come back to Earth and go "Magneto is a world leader now? The fu--"
Magneto is definitely a better person than any of the real life world leaders we have right now so personally my reaction wouldn't be "The fuck" but more "It's about damn time"
And that qualifies for “the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group”… how, exactly?
He was deliberately targetting humanity who, from his point of view ARE a different genetic group, just as humans view mutant as such.
He also did this in full awareness that his actions would cause planes to fall from the skies, cars to go out of control, and life support systems to fail for countless helpless individuals across the ENTIRE planet.
I have never seen a single story with Magneto where genocide was his goal
Unless you mean that one crappy story from Gran "I used to be able to write back in the 90's" Morrison's X-men run which was thankfully retconned into never having been the real Magneto
He took the nuclear missiles from the Soviet submarine which he had previously sunk, killing all aboard (the crime he eventually went on trial for in X-Men 200 and was cleared from by some seriously dubious comic-book-legal choices), surrounded Asteroid M with them, all pointing at Earth and threatening to launch them towards Earth unless he got what he wanted, which would have devastated Earth, but left his mutant colony on Asteroid M intact (or more likely would have led to both being destroyed)
Him threatening to shut down Earth's technology was on at least one other occasion, and he did that too, killing who knows how many thousands of people in the process.
Plus, that's not even counting his plan to declare war on humanity when he ruled Genosha, which was nly stopped by Jean Grey's X-Men team.
Magneto has absolutely had plans to subjugate humanity (as distinct from mutants) on more than one occasion.

Date: 2021-06-23 05:49 pm (UTC)But I'm going to have to vehemently disagree on this one. Magneto has threatened genocide on the planet multiple times.
As Jake from Brooklyn 99 would (probably) say, "Cool motive, still genocide."
