From Marvel Voices: Pride which came out this week!

As someone on here guessed this was one of my favourite stories in the special

Our tale begins back in the 1900's where it appears that Irene Adler aka Mystique's wife Destiny, is meeting with a character who will be...familiar to fans of certain detective fiction

Yes

That is who you think it is

Unsurprisingly given that he's a man in Victorian england, Moriarty soon proves himself to be utterly loathsome as he reveals the real reason he wanted to meet with "Irene"

It turns out he's had pictures taken of Irene and Raven together which both reveal their relationship and the fact that Raven is a mutant as they show her blue skin.

The arrogant buffoon actually believes that he has the upper hand here and tells Irene that if she agrees to become his wife he'll allow her to "Visit" Mystique...who he intends to keep as a prisoner for "Academic Study".

Unfortunately for this repulsive little insect he's unaware of two crucial facts

The first being that Irene can see the future and is ALWAYS a step ahead.

And the second being that Mystique can change her form to look like ANYONE

And "Irene" is not who he thinks at all

In fact it's Mystique, taking Irene's form

And so Mystique deals with Moriarty the way his kind deserve to be dealt with, snapping his neck while informing him just how truly stupid he is and how he and morons like him will never be able to outwit her wife.

Thankfully sophisticated recording equipment didn't exist back then so Moriarty can't return in an extremely underwhelming plot twist involving Mystique's long lost sister and a plane that doesn't really exist in two seasons time

Mystique gets rid of the body (It's not quite throwing him off a waterfall but breaking his neck and kicking him off of a train works just as well too)

And you now what? Missy from Doctor Who was right. "Clever" people really DO make the funniest faces when this happens

Task complete, Mystique returns to her wife and we get this truly adorable moment

This ending was so sweet and just made me smile so much

Mystique and her wife are so wonderful together and it's so good to get more stories featuring them.

This story does such a good job of getting across just how much they mean to each other and the theme of bad ass queer women willing to do anything to live their lives together how they want is one that brings a smile to my face

I'm hoping that this story also foreshadows the fact that Mystique will be getting Irene back since the message here...that arrogant fools who believe that they can keep Raven and Irene apart always end up losing because they can never outwit or outplan them...is not exactly subtle in how it seems to relate to what's happening in the X-men comics right now

This story was a perfect example of why I love Mystique and why she's one of my heroes.

Also if Marvel would like to do a spin off mini-series that is all about Mystique and Irene and their adventures together throughout history that would be something I would put on my pull list

This is awesome. It's so truly bloody wonderful to see Marvel openly showing Raven and Irene together. I still remember the old days of inferences and hints, when that was the most creative teams were allowed to do, so a story like this fills me with utter joy. Thanks for posting it.

This was great, and I hope that you're right about it foreshadowing Irene coming back.

Also, have we ever seen Raven being Irene before? That's a new twist!

As much as I would love to see Mystique burn everything down in the main X-Men comics, I do dread what it would mean for my favourites. I don't want the people I like to get hurt.

Then again, this is X-Men and we can never have nice things.

I hate that I have to keep coming in to your posts to remind you of the rules for posting.

We have two fundamental rules about posting limits for new comics (A comic that is either the most recent issue of a series, or a one shot published within the past four weeks)

No more than four pages from any new comic (in it's entirety)

And our over-riding rule which applies to all comics: No more than one third of any individual story may be posted.

This is a lot more than 1/3 of the story

Also, two pages from this comic were posted yesterday

https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/9287406.html

So you can have no more than two pages from this story, and then only if the story is six pages or more.

Please reduce the number of pages in your post to meet the community requirements and I urge you to make note of the rules of posting here

Now this I like, would love to see Mystique taking out bigots and homophobes. Also, I didn't know Destiny was immortal as well. Surprised that doesn't come up more often.

So was this before or after Sherlock retired to do beekeeping?

Wait, what? I kind of assumed Mystique was meant to be that fellow Irene ran off with in the original story. How’d she go from Sherlock Holmes to who she is today? What happened to Watson?

I think the conceit is that 616*'s Arthur Conan Doyle either interacted with or met Raven and Irene during their practice, and based his stories of Sherlock Holmes around them- inserting Watson as a convenient narrator, and, for some reason, turning Irene into an opera singing adventuress from New Jersey. (Well, actual Irene might be from New Jersey too, I'm not sure).

*Are we still on 616 as the main Marvel 'verse? I vaguely recall some notion of renumbering after the last Secret Crisis of Infinity Wars?

Well, and "A Scandal in Bohemia," Adler's only canonical appearance in the Doyle stories*, does also involve an incriminating photo of her- although in that case the photos, and ultimately the control of the whole situation are in her possession. That plus Moriarty suggests that Doyle got told some veresion of this story.

*Though I think other than Moriarty, she's probably the most expanded on character out of the bunch.

the ONE thing this whole even has given is that many of the ships, and and the straight up queerness of the x-men is no longer subtext. the mutants themselves all seem to genuinely want to make this work... it is clear that it is xavier, Erik, and Moira who are the real issue here. there's definitely something going on if they are keeping Seers out of the way.

I want Mystique to burn it all down, BUT i kinda want the current status Quo to remain..... at least characterwize

Then I hope it’s their family that burns it down. Kurt, Irene, Rogue, and Mystique. Kurt already seems on the road to tearing it down.

Okay, there's a lot of flaws in Sherlock in general and that last season in particular *but* I will confess I got a kick out of the idea of Moriarty spending hours recording himself saying "Tick," over and over again, with just the occasional tock, as perhaps the most effort for the pettiest aspect of a post-mortem revenge plot I've seen.

Wait, Destiny is THAT Irene Adler? I figured it was just a reference like a lot of Claremont's characters.

Have they ever explained how she was so long lived? With Raven's powers there's really no reason for her to age but - even though she was no spring chicken when she died - I have a hard time buying Irene is over a hundred.

Also, chucking the body off a waterfall is very funny given Holmes lore.
