The explorer is Shahidah El-Amin of Baghdad, and the foreign land is Wales in the 13th century.
Issue #1 opened on Shahidah in the " castle of fallen Maelor " (in Powys Fadog), working through its trap-guarded secret ways.
She didn't find what she was looking for - because someone had already got to it first.
" You know, Shahidah - if you took some time to study barbarian architecture, you might have realized..

She didn't.

The men advanced on Shahidah - who was able to get away from them, thanks in part to her redirection of that one guy's torch towards food for its flame.
She exited through a nearby window, into the river below - followed by some of the wood that'd boarded up that window.
She was able to grab some of that wood as a raft, so that she went down the river, out of the men's reach.
Those men, and Shahidah's betrayer friend, found themselves later explaining the qualified success of their mission to their master.
" Enough. "

The leader of the soldiers offered justification.

Later, a couple outside their hut found Shahidah drifting up to them.

" I have a letter somewhere. From one of your priests. "

Ednowain took her up there, intending to bring her to " the castle ".
On the road, they met a man whom Ednowain recognized as having authority.

(This is Ednyfed Fychan ap Cynwrig.)

The truth of that proverb evinced itself before them.

(Pagecount's 7 and under 3/10ths of 22. Issue #2's out next week.
Writing's Robert Mackenzie and David Walker.
Art's Justin Greenwood.
Colors're Daniela Miwa.
Letters're Simon Bowland - he does a wonderfully subtle job with this story's " the language people are speaking is denoted by the font of their letters ".
