Spock tells Kirk he is going to undergo the Kolinahr Ritual. When Spock goes to the turbolift, he's kidnapped by Gary Seven.
A Vulcan losing control of his emotions is NOT good, as we've seen throughout Star Trek. Even DS9 had a "Vulcan goes crazy" episode in the final season.
