Okay, was not expecting the sudden surprise Van Helsing Hate crimes.

DEFINITELY was not expecting the token human friend dying.

Sadly, I was. French/Italian indie comics almost always kill off the friend/lover/sibling of the protagonist. It's a shocking plot-twist when they don't die. Happy endings are rarer than a blue moon too, usually they are either completely depressing (ex: guy spends the whole book looking for his kidnapped girlfriend, finds her, and she immediately gets shot) or bittersweet (protagonist loses everything, but at least managed to defeat the bad guys).

That's why I just couldn't get into them, despite the fact that my own country produces a shitton of them.

However, I can at least appreciate the pretty art. This book in particular is very pleasant to look at.
