The roots of the first arc we’re telling go back over 20 years for me. Back then, I was writing Iron Man, Roger Stern was writing the late, lamented Marvel Universe, and Mark Waid was writing Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty. Each of those books took place in a different time period, and I had an idea for a crossover that’d explore a previously-unknown event: The Sin-Cong War. The idea was that Roger could show how it started, before the Marvel Age had begun, and Mark could show it at its height, and I’d get to explore the modern-day aftermath. -- Kurt Busiek

This part of the story is set when the US has military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. From this we can pin-point the year down to.....oh. Well that's this story futureproofed if nothing else.

Yeah, IIRC the Sin-Cong War was invented so the veteran characters who DIDN'T fight in WW2 would be tied to a war that doesn't date their history. At this point most of the older or younger characters could have fought at either end of the Afghanistan conflict (assuming it has an end) and the math would check out (at least as well as it ever does with Marvel Time)

Speaking of doing the math ... Sue is sure looking young there and Reed sure is a grown-ass man. I mean, we all knew and it isn't like it hasn't come up before but I really don't like being reminded.

This does raise questions: Will Kevin Feige bring in old style Marvel Monsters so the MCU can go the full Kaiju? *Can* the MCU go full Kaiju?

Also, this has been done in comics a few times: Party One doesn't know they are being watched by Party Two, who doesn't know they are being watched by Party Three.

I could certainly see a Bloodstone movie working in a Kaiju-hunting thing.

Then there's the Fin Fang Foom theory for Shang Chi (that the ten rings are so big because they were made for dragon fingers)

Until then I guess we have to settle for Groot.

In the past, Marvel had a full-on in-canon Godzilla comic. So yes, they can go full Kaiju.
Also, there's literally a character called Kid Kaiju who can summon giant monsters from his imagination.

Alain Racine, that's Moon Knight's buddy Frenchie, right?

Batroc is looking particularly swole as well.

Racine is actually Peregrine, aka the guy who always gets matched against Angel when X-Men visit France.

Now that you mention it, that name does ring a bell.

So Deathbird was like that as a kid too? WHY was she allowed to run a galactic empire, again?

Look, if we start admitting that birthright inheritance isn't a reliable way to pick a leader to run a space empire we're going to have to rewrite the whole Marvel cosmic setting, and squinting seriously at most of the fictional countries on Marvel Earth.

I don't think that last bit needed the words "fictional" or "Marvel"

Obviously. Still even her brother reigned it in enough that people mostly just called D'Ken mad behind his back. Deathbird is a raving loon 24/7.

The Neramani family must have some fucked up, inbred genes to have produced at least 50% complete psychos.

Plus, it could have 75%. We don't know if the third sister was crazy, because Deathbird murdered her. And her own mother. Sunspot, you can do better. Bishop, you could have done better. Vulcan... actually, she was a bit out of your league.

Or they're just a normal royal family.

I feel as if you're trying to imply that inherited, inbred rulership of a galaxy spanning empire might be a bad thing.

Why would you say such a thing?

I mean

She's gorgeous and she's got a body like Dominatrix Barbie

I'd say Sunspot is doing fine. In that the person he's doing is very fine indeed

Yes she's a little bit crazy but honestly that probably just makes the sex even hotter and wilder

Bear in mind, there is a non-zero chance that Deathbird has a cloaca.

That kid in the scans? I don't think that's Deathbird. For one she is referred to as a Warbird. And as the offspring of one of the soldiers.

*blinks*

I was today years old when I realized Deathbird and Warbird were different people.
