I already hate the whole storyline. I hate that the start is a hate crime against a mentally ill Jewish-Roma woman. I hate that the focus is still on a male character. I hate it that Wanda and Pietro are no longer Erik's children. I hate it that the twins are no longer mutants. And I really, really hate Emma.
Murder doesn't count when it's one of the privilegied character who will always come back. . The ones who got screwed up by the story are the members of X-Factor, which story was destroyed by editorial to make room for more overexposed characters drama.
So, like, does anyone else outside of Krakoa know that Scarlet Witch is dead? Surely some close friends or relatives would notice? This is gonna be a complete political crapshow no matter which way you look at things.
Please, you’ve already cribbed so much from the Inhumans, you don’t need to steal their fashion as well.
They inform the Avengers this issue and Pietro finds out and he tries to kill Magneto because he thinks he's responsible for Wanda's death. Northstar is able to calm him down and later we see him spending time at Blob's bar with the former Brotherhood (Toad, Blob, Mastermind) who are all missing Wanda as well
It's interesting that of the characters we see reacting to Wanda's death it's the former villains who miss her most because they knew her better than the heroes did and had a strange kind of camraderie
If I've got the timing right, Hulkling and Wiccan go pretty directly from Krakoa to a Major Crisis Event and Abigail Brand is carefully curating what information travels between them and Earth, so they're probably out of the loop at least for a while.
We know that the killer had either magnetic or telikinetic powers or some form of magical ability.
So my main suspect is Exodous at present. His telikinetic powers could manipulate metal just as easily as Magneto's magnetism could. He hated Wanda with a passion. And the timing of Wanda's death was just as Magneto, who Exodous is obsessed with, was accepting Wanda as his daughter again
Magnetic powers... That's pretty much Lorna, Magneto and ... Uh, what's hername the weird person with vague powers who they fight in the Savage Land now and then? Zaladnor?
Telekinetics are dime a dozen, so that doesen't narrow things much.
So what are signs of struggle on a body that can rewrite reality fighting something powerful enough to kill it? I would have thought Wanda was taken by surprise. She is too mighty to go down quickly or quietly, especially with all the enhanced sensory powers on Krakoa.
Is the reference to "Really old backups" a hint that they'll be resetting Wandas character?
I wonder if they are going to do a Tony Stark and reset her to before the terrible writing of House of M....uhhhhhh I mean "Her breakdown" caused her to do the whole No More Mutants thing?
If it gets everyone to stop refusing to let her move past it I'm all for that
"Look, I think it's totally out of line to suggest that we should have prevented this murder just because we were in charge of society. We were busy dealing with a telefloronics problem that IN NO WAY could have been foreseen or prevented."
Beast: I'm the only one smart enough and ruthless enough to keep us all safe
*Completely fails to prevent a murder which could start an international incident because he was too busy dealing with the other potential international incident which he personally caused*
Let's just toss this onto the "Charles Xavier is a terrible person pile".
I'm not surprised the Quiet council voted against resurrecting Wanda. I am surprised that the vote was so overwhelmingly against it. Charles has to suspect Magneto would still feel fatherly affection for Wanda, right? And this is one of his closest friends.
Also isn't Storm on the council? I'm not sure if she's at this vote, but it feels like even if you were only an Avenger for like 2 minutes, you should at least probably vote to resurrect one of the longest standing Avengers.
I also don't understand why the backup would be so old... Wanda was only revealed to be a not!mutant like... in Uncanny Avengers. Which continuity wise puts us just prior to Stevil's reveal, if I recall correctly. So her backup would be post Secret Wars but pre Secret Empire. That's like... vaguely last year Marvel time.
Storm was against resurrection, which seems a little out of character. After all the times she's lost control of her powers or been possessed, you'd think that she'd be sympathetic to Wanda a little.
Losing control is only okay when a mutant does it, I suppose.
Bsed on absolutely nothing but what scans I've read here and what news I've read on the future of the X franchise, I'll make a wild prediction:
Wanda's killer is nobody important, just some mutant who saw genosha's boogeywoman and figured they could kill her. Meanwhile somebody (*cough*Pietro*cough*) go under the Quiet Counsel's nose and resurrects Wanda, who comes out with all of her memories intact because Cerebro pulled a backup right at the last minute. As such, we find out that she had subconsciously used her reality warping to undo her mutant-hood due to her anger at her father in a reverse-Franklin Richards and that their interactions during the Gala caused her to undo that retcon.
I've seen a guess about somebody who is not important, and would be consistent with the X-office disgusting treatment of the New X-Men. Somebody who would hold a grunge on Wanda not because she was depowered, but because she wasn't. Somebody who would make it look like Wanda was killed by a mutant controlling metal.
So, I read the whole book... here are my thoughts:
-Since when do they call mutant powers "Supernatural abilities"?
-Charles, thats your oldest friend in grief about his child. Do you have any idea how people work inside their heads?
-Kitty phasing through the electromagnetic fields around Magneto is agonizing to them both. I don't see her able to blindside him when she is phasing.
-No Tommy, she is not your Mom. I don't think you've met her as much as four times. She is a woman you don't know, who told you you are the reincarnation of her baby.
-I though Vision erased his emotions and memories of Wanda.
-Magneto hasn't been limited to manipulating metal only since the 1970s. You'd think they would remember by now.
-Magneto has forcefields that has held against Phoenix and a swat from Galactus. Why is he not using them?
-Interesting that he calls Pietro "Son"
-I enjoyed seeing Northstar outspeed Pietro.
-Polaris went drinking with Wanda once. I think thats the limit of their interaction. Her being all angry in Wandas defense and blaming their father is ...weird.
-Good scene with the Brother hood, but way to be a prick Fred.
Oh yeah... time of death 2:36. So that is why they went out of their way in SWORD to make it clear that the dance with Magneto was at 3:17. You ham, Eric. Overacting like that. At least Charles was subtle.
Generally, this book was weird. I think it is really poor writing when they ignore or arbitrarily change characters powers to fit the story. Same as with Maddie in Hellions. If you are writing about people with superpowers, you need to keep the internal consistency going, and remember their powers. If you can't, don't write superhero books.
Much the same about all the relationships they made up from nowhere. Wanda and Tommy, Wanda and Polaris... Hey, Vision erased his emotions for her last we saw.
Things like the death being before she danced with Magneto would be really interesting clues normally, but when the rest of the book is so sloppy with details, its 50/50 that its just carelessness and it loses a lot of impact.
Edit: Killer looks a lot like the White Pilgrim. I am sure it is coincidence that Onslaught is running around with the power of both Magneto and Xavier, and a pattern of using powerful mutants as batteries.
Consistent power levels doesn't mean consistent with their most powerful showings, which are just as much outliers and inexplicable as their weakest showings.
Wanda was shown in the last Scarlet Witch solo series to be spending time with the twin and making up for lost time. And I'd say there's no sense that Polaris and Wanda have any relationship here. Her anger is clearly more about Magneto than anything to do with her half-sister.
Anyway, had another thought: While Exodus is the prime suspect, powerful with telekinesis and hated Wanda. Also wears a white cloak and is experienced with bladed weapons. There are a few problems with that.
1) It seems out of character for Exodus to frame Magneto 2) While powerful, I don't think Exodus is strong enough to take Wanda down with no struggle. Such a fight would be noticed.
There is someone else around who could have done it... Onslaught. We know he is hanging around. He has the powers of Xavier and Magneto. So he could do the magnetism, and what is more, we have seen that Xaviers power can suppress Wandas abilities for a time.
So if Onslaught attacked her, turned off her powers... she knows who he is and to run for reinforcements. And it could all have proceeded like we saw from there.
Exodus is an extremely powerful telepath too. I think his telekinetic powers fall short of Magneto's magnetism but top out any of the mutant telekinetics without Cosmic Fire Chicken support. I don't believe the feat in question is beyond him.
Also, Wanda is very much a glass canon. She can make a mountain blow up, or build up to a shot that drops an elder of the universe, but she can also be knocked unconscious by someone with a pipe wrench if she doesn't react just right to stop them.
