Batman Vs. Bigby!: A Wolf in Gotham #1 - "Bat, Wolf, Worm"

The Batman that exists in this story does not neatly fit into the established DCU continuity and the existing timeline. It transcends it, holding onto everything I count as essential to the Batman mythos, and leaving aside the extraneous bits that crop up over decades of stories. The main change readers will notice has something to do with the nature of Robin, his partner and sidekick. I’m not going to spoil things by giving away details, but it’s something I've wanted to try with the character since back in the day I was the regular writer on the Robin series. -- Bill Willingham

That's just some straight 19th century "This is what Chinese names are, right?" tier shit. Like I see not one but two characters name directly after Anglophone authors so I dunno why you can't just do a bit of googling to apply the same thing in this case.

I can see it being someone transliterating a chinese name without knowing how it's spelled. "Wenwen" is a name after all, I have a harder time figuring out what "Kajulian" might be, Xiaoliang? Of course both of those are first names.

My guess is that by alluding to their work, they wanted to cover their bases by not using a real world author, so no one would be trying to find a work credited to them that they'd just made up (or getting angry about it, if they were the person in question).

Of course, that only answers why they didn't use a real-world author for their segue. As for the rest...?

... And judging by the characterization of the rest of this, I'm guessing the reason he didn't get a chance to try it was that the editor at time time took one look at his proposal and said "No, what the hell is wrong with you?"
