Inferno Issue 2 brings us a long overdue reunion

The issue opens with a series of scenes showing how Mystique impersonated both Magneto and Xavier to get her hands on one of the Cerebro helmets (Which also explains who the "Magneto" who stole one in Trial of Magneto was) and get Destiny's DNA giving her everything she needs to get her wife back

And she proceeds to do exactly that




I love this scene so much

Mystique is a woman who has had to become cold and ruthless and hard to the world. But she breaks down in tears at finally having her wife back by her side after so long without the light of her life and the one who gave meaning to everything




Destiny is at first overwhelmed by returning to the world but fortunately Mystique is there to help her through it all and be there for her as she adjusts and we get to see her both Mystique caring for her and Irene being there for her as she admits just how much her life has fallen apart without her there for her and all her regrets



This is some of my favorite writing of Hickman's. Sometimes his writing can come off a little dry and lacking in emotion but here it's just beautiful and this scene with Mystique and Destiny is wonderful

These two are two of my favorite heroes and one of my favorite couples and it feels amazing to see Mystique finally back together with her wife and to see them as a team again

The rest of the issue also has some great scenes which show just how easily Mystique was able to manipulate everyone into giving her exactly what she wants and getting Destiny placed on the Quiet Council but as I can only share three pages of an issue that came out this week just take my word for it that you should go buy this issue especially if you love Raven Darkholme as much as I do

This issue was a perfect example of the things that makes her one of my heroes

It was good to see Mystique actually happy for once. I dread that Xavier is going to ruin it though.

I'm hoping that Xavier is going to be done away with in this story and Krakoa will be free of him and Moira

It will be better off without both of them

This is another huge test of how much the "clean slate" of Krakoa works for readers. Mystique is one of the worst people in the MU. And she's only a threat because people keep letting her become one. Pre-Krakoa, I'd say that neither she nor Destiny deserve to be happy any more than Apocalypse, Jamie Braddock, or Selene. But this far into the Krakoa era, I'm like, "sure, why not?" Go Mutants!

Of course, I also think that Moira is the big bad who has been working a long game, moving things into place, staying off Destiny's radar, to ultimately end Mutants in what could be her final life, with Mystique and Destiny actually helping to save Krakoa in the end. So, there's that.

I adore her

Yes she's sometimes done ruthless things. But you need to understand....I really utterly despise nearly all of the people she's done these things to and I think they deserve to suffer. Especially the humans she's done these things to

I mean I'm not even fond of humanity in our universe so you can imagine how I feel about a version of humanity that's even worse. As far as I'm concerned the only humans in the Marvel universe worth caring about are some of the ones in costumes and some of their loved ones.

So she's good by me

I've always been rooting for her in any given story where she shows up, from her very first appearance onwards, just like I am now

Plus she killed Graydon Creed

That alone buys her a pass from me

Mystique is an absolute monster but her goal is the continued survival of mutants so I don't know that she's all that different from Magneto or the Professor who have also done evil things for the sake of the greater good.

No we have seen it before

We have seen her as an older woman in the pages of some of the Claremont run on X-men among other places and we have seen flashbacks of her at around the age she is here with Mystique in some stories detailing their earliest days together as well

Mystique's gonna be so mad when she realises she didn't have to pretend to be Professor X to get Hope's cooperation. If she'd just said it would undermine and frustrate him, Hope would've leapt at the chance.

Looking forward to many scenes of Irene forgetting she's in the body of a ntysomething rather than a hundred years old.
Or annoying anyone in range by playing it up.
No point being an old person in a young person's body if you can't get some enjoyment out of it.
(Looking forward, but not trusting to hope. Character moments ain't Hickman's strong suit.)

How did Destiny's resurrection work without Professor X or another suitable telepath there to actually load her backup into her new body? I thought that Hope could only use powers of people she was near, so she wouldn't be able to use the helmet without another telepath nearby. I think her powers have been inconsistent before, so it's not a huge deal, but it's just a thought.

I echo those complaining that Destiny can't just be old when she's brought back. It does kind of make sense that Mystique would have her deaged, and to a certain extent I can see there being no point in not bringing people back at their physical "peak", but it's a shame that Marvel refuses to let women age. In another comic, one interested in the implications of anything in it, one might ask what it says about how Krakoan society views age, but I expect to see no such thing ever happen on panel.

Super cool to see Destiny back though, and I look forward to her doing some cool stuff, like moving the long dormant meta arc forward.

Hope was also able to work the machine by herself in New Mutants so my guess would be that her powers have evolved to the point where she can borrow powers without having the person nearby.

I'm looking forward to this as well! This has been a really good miniseries so far and it's great to see the Mystique story arc progressing as that's been one of my favorite of the various subplots. Also cool that it looks like we shall finally be seeing a final showdown with ORCHIS. And it appears that we're going to see some explanation for why Omega Sentinel turned so evil and it appears that her and Nimrod are up to something

I hate to say I told you so...actually no I LOVE to say I told you so...but it looks like the idiots at ORCHIS have gone ahead and created a Cylon situation. Nimrod and Omega Sentinel are absolutely going to turn on their masters

I think people preferring to come back at their physical prime makes sense. Just because you can come back to life doesn't mean you want to be constantly dying and resurrecting which is what would happen if you were brought back in a body that doesn't have that many years of life left where as if you come back in a younger body you're going to get a good few decades out of it, barring accidents

I love this issue, I love that in the whole process of resurrecting Irene and getting her a quiet council seat, Kurt is the only one who Raven didn't manipulate in any way. He just wanted to see his moms happy. I adore that.

Also, Irene's "would you like me to tell you how that vote will go?" Was the humbling of Xavier I have yearned for, as a response to all his high handed BS thus far.

I loved that line so much as well. I've always loathed Xavier and found him to be an insufferable dick. Seeing him lose so completely was immensely satisfying

honestly.... most of her treachery was in some ways justified. graydon creed? Kelly? hell some of her shit was sanctioned by Xavier himself. Mystique is honestly no different than characters like Elektra. and honestly both of them are better than characters like the Punisher. Emma, Scott, and Logan are just as bad arguably.

Between that and him offering Sebastian Shaw, Apocalypse and Mr Sinister positions on Krakoa's government it seems like he's about as smart at picking who to make his enemy as he is at picking who to be friends with
