Based on the monologue, he's clearly had something of a fall from grace. He himself says this is a job he wouldn't have taken in the past.

I'm willing to give this a go mostly because christopher chance is one of those slightly weird characters that might fit with King's introspective, navel-gazing style.

The earlier Peter Milligan series from Vertigo were firmly set in a kind of pulpy, hardcase-crime type milieu - the kind of thing you'd look for if you were also reading stuff by Brubaker or Rucka, for example. I remember liking it well enough.

Also, I don't know if this is intentional, but in the actual comic itself I can't unsee how smallwood's drawn Christopher Chance to look like Oscar Isaac in The Card Counter. It makes Chance a little more sympathetic, somehow.

From the pages posted here he looks more like Anson Mount to me.
