He forgot how fun it is? What? We've established that the reason Scarecrow can't stop is because the ONLY thing that scares him now is Batman. The only thing that rivals causing fear is feeling it in terms of Crane's favorite pastimes. I mean, look at his reaction to being shot. "Oh. I'm bleeding..." Because he no longer feels fear in regards to his own life ending. Everything Crane does in Gotham is so that Batman will come after him. He may obsess over him more than Joker does now.
I mean I utterly loathe the kind of dull and pitiful people who waste their time caring about ridiculous bullshit like "Order" in general especially those who are of the fascist mouth breathing mental defective kind like Mahoney here.
But I especially hate him for being an inferior Z-grade villain stealing panel time that could be going to an actually enjoyable villain like the Scarecrow
Seeing Batman fight a cartoon avatar of police brutality could be great, but I still don't trust them not to try and turn this guy into an antihero ala the Punisher or Azrael.
Well, yeah, but half of it had run while he was Big Boss of the Bat-offices, and for the rest of it the new editors probably cut him slack as one of the old warhorses.
I like Order. Structures and rules are grounding, and overall essential for large-scale planning and healthy growth.
The problem is that cops and such use "order" as a convenient excuse to beat the shit out of people. Like when they use curfew to criminalise innocents who are just minding their own business because now just existing outside is a crime.
It's like when they twist "respect" from "I recognise your humanity" to "I recognise your authority over me."
I don't understand how I can be so interested and disinterested in a story at the same time. Like, this is an interesting concept and the art is beautiful but...I don't know, can't put my finger on it. Felt the same about Joker War, and all those Future State issues. Am I burnt out? I was enraptured by every issue of Snyder's run, even during the worst parts of King's run I was all the way checked in. This, I barely remember what happens between issues. Ghostmaker's cool, I like Scarecrow's new presentation, I enjoy Harley being part of the gang, but the rest of it is all just running together.
I feel the same, I've pretty much dropped most Bat-books these days, Feels like the last dozen Batman arcs are some variation of a villain taking total control of the city.
I think the problem is a big shift away from superhero comic books just telling a story to everything needing to be an Event or a Crisis. Some writers seem to feel that you cannot just have a story where the characters foil a villain, exprience some character moments and then go on to the next adventure
Everything has to be either a world shaking cataclysm or the lead up to a world shaking cataclysm.
I've seen the opposite complaint from some people about the X-men comics at Marvel because they're pissed that the various books are just telling their own stories and it isn't all a tie in to some big story arc. Which is actually one of the things I like about the X-books right now that they aren't built around yet another event because I much prefer the books doing their own thing while occasionally crossing over as part of a shared universe to "Everything is all about the chosen heroes assembling to stop the Anti Pope assembling the seven chaos chards to destroy the omiverse with the Evil Glove"
so I guess that just shows you can never please everyone
