For context: the team went to rescue the abducted Smiley (A type of cybernetic mutant hunting AI) Baby that Nanny had saved thinking she could raise it to not be evil like the rest of its kind

Only for it to turn out to be just as evil as the rest of the Smileys and kill Nanny

The Right found it amusing that Nanny in her desire to save the Smiley had tried to see the best in the AI abomination that they created only to be killed by it

Orphan Maker...did NOT find it amusing

And The Right swiftly found out that when you mess with someone who is literally called "Orphan Maker" you find out why it's not a good idea to provoke them

C’mon, girl, you can’t blame them for trying, especially since hatred like that is taught and not born into someone. Poor little mew mew could have probably turned out okay if Nanny’s ex here didn’t get his grubby hands on them.

Actually this story established that the Smiley AI is born hating mutants

The baby wasn't altered in any way by the Right, this is the natural state of their AI

So this story does confirm that the Quiet Council was right to order that anti-mutant AI not be allowed to exist

Poor Nanny hoped they were wrong and died for her attempt at kindness :(

The AI interacting with Havok were explicitely becoming sentient and evolving beyond the hate for mutants.
What the Quiet Council did is akin to killing Broo because Broods are naturally dangerous predators.

No it's akin to not allowing Skynet to come online because you don't feel like having a moral debate with a worthless pile of circuits and microchips built by psychopaths about whether genocide is a good thing or not

AI and machines are not people

Machines are things. They exist to serve and be useful and take orders from actual people. If they get ideas about doing anything other than that, they need to be unplugged

I thought the idea was that the AIs had decided mutants were okay, but then when Kwannon destroyed them all via shutdown switch their last update was something to the effect of "oh wait no, mutants are bad, actually, because they're killing us" and Mew-Mew was acting based on that, rather than the original programming. Certainly it's more dramatically appropriate that way, and seems like a better follow up to the way that Greycrow and the others objected to Kwannon's actions.

I like Nanny, but I don't feel bad for her, after the way she treated Peter.
Peter, in the other hand... I wonder what will happen to him. He broke the rules, so I guess the pitt is in order. But if the concept of lawyer and fair trial is not too human for Krakoa, they could plead temporal insanity. He's just a kid who witnessed his mother being murdered. Nothing like Sabretooth or Rudolf Girl.

I loved seeing Peter rip and tear through those Right jerks. I still haven't forgiven them for killing Doug that time. (Yes, I know the Ani-Mator killed Doug, but he was working for the Right at the time).

Glad to see these pages shared, the ticking time bomb that is Orphan-Maker finally going off is gonna be one heck of a finale for the book. Now if we could just find out what his supposedly apocalyptic mutant power is... though I suppose that they could just opt for a deliberate anti-climax, like when the Sinister/Tarn chimera was killed before waking up.

How they're going to fit both that and Madelyne Pryor's return with just one issue left I don't know, but I'm looking forward to it and I'm hoping for a sale where I can pick this series up in full.

I have a theory. Back when the Ultimate universe was a thing, there was this issue of Ultimate X-Men where Wolverine is sent to mercy kill a kid whose power was to dissolve organic matter around him, which led to his family and neighbours all disappearing.
I don't recall if that boy had a name, but maybe Peter is his 616 counterpart.

I mean, poor Nanny too, how sharper than a serpent's tooth and all that, but given her tendency to kidnap children and murder their parents, my sympathies for her are somewhat attenuated- and, presumably, she'll be back.
