I haven't followed it closely over the years, and now the stacked up history makes the plot mostly impenetrable. Some human-alien hybrids have recruited the nations of the moons of Saturn to join the fight against the Martians, who are operating a literal scorched Earth policy since their ability to procreate is gone. This involves entering the hive-mind of the Martians while in an exploding spaceship and also coming to terms with the discovery of a previously unknown offspring at the same time. For some reason - never addressed - there was a random two-page spread of a Yellow Submarine-style hallucination.
I hope it makes sense to those who've been following it!
I'm not surprised. There's a law of diminishing returns when you keep going back to alternate history stories. Scarlet Traces started as "What Happened After The War of the Worlds?" Which is a a great concept.
Keep on going, though, and instead it you've got "What Happened After the thing that happened after the thing that happened after The War of the Worlds?"
