Date: 2021-11-19 04:31 pm (UTC)Between this and the just announced Miles Morales What-If stories, which have basically the exact same premise, it's extremely weird that Marvel is framing these two very prominent Spider-Man characters/successors as generic, context-free legacy characters for the Marvel U in general. At minimum it seems unimaginative, at most it feels like actively cheapening the characters.
X Lives/Deaths of Wolverine
Still extremely salty that this is just another "Wolverine's dark and mysterious past" storyline, rather than the followup to HoX/PoX that its name and format suggested it would be.
Superior Four
I still think this looks like a load of fun, but like the Gwenverse stuff, using the multiverse to do relatively straight takes on "What if X character was also Y character?" is not a terribly interesting use of the multiverse to me. Even the designs of the various alternate Doc Ocks (Ghost Rider Ock, Wolverine Ock, and Hulk Ock) aren't exciting imo.
ASM Beyond
Shifting Hobie Brown from the Prowler (cool) to Hornet (uncool) is a major downgrade. It's still kind of surprising that Marvel didn't just combine him and Aaron Davis somehow.
The fact that the solicit text can talk about how Goblins have defined Spidey for 60 years and now here's another one really drives home the dearth of new ideas around Spidey.
Ben Reilly: Spider-Man
Maybe it's just that I'm getting old and overly nostalgic, but it's wild that the actual nostalgia book from DeMatteis looks both cooler and more fresh than the actual new era of the main Spidey title.
Savage Spider-Man
I love Man-Spider stories. This looks cool.
Iron Fist
This could be cool and I wonder where it will go, but there's a part of me that can't help looking at this and seeing brand management. Like, is this only coming out because Disney saw that the Shang-Chi movie did relatively well and they don't want to bring in the actor from the bad Netflix Iron Fist show when they inevitably do Iron Fist stuff on Disney+? Also, what happened to Pei, the new Iron Fist who Kaare Andrews introduced? Is she gone and forgotten already?
Sabretooth
Still rocks, still hyped. The body at the foundations of Krakoa. This could be either vital reading or utterly, brutally disappointing.
Secret X-Men
As before, the team itself looks very cool, but I'm not enthused to see Tini Howard writing this, since her handling of Krakoa has rubbed me the wrong way.
X-Cellent
Finally. I'm a huge fan of X-Statix, and we've been waiting for this for two years since the initial X-Cellent one-shot. My reservations about this remain the same as they were two years ago; 1) I don' generally love to see creative teams return to old projects unless they have something new to say and 2) as much as X-Statix was an incredibly encapsulation of its moment, the nature of celebrity has undergone some major changes in the 17(!) years since the conclusion of the original series, and I'm not sure Milligan is going to be able to comment on that in a thoughtful way.
The Thing
Love the look of this, love the buzz around the first issue.
Hulk
It's not really fair to compare this to the now concluded Immortal Hulk, and its aim sound very different, but the solicit text "Get ready for a surprise-filled, all-out brawl that only the insane minds of Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley can bring you!" could not more perfectly encapsulate why I've already resigned myself to not caring about this book and why I find Cates' whole brand vaguely embarassing.
Avengers Forever
Aaron's Avengers is still dumb as a bag of rocks, but this sounds like the kind of AU stuff which can be a ton of fun.

I also think it's to avoid another case of "should we make Danny Rand Asian for the MCU" controversy.

Date: 2021-11-19 06:58 pm (UTC)Depends if it's like Aaron's Heroes Return, AU nonsense that's generally harmless until Aaron starts trying to give it a plot.
(and it sounds like that's what he's going to do. So that's a bit ominous.)

Date: 2021-11-19 04:38 pm (UTC)Eternals is a gift that keeps giving (is this how you use the expression?).
I'm cautiously optimistic about the new Iron Fist, even if I'm still mad about Danny getting mostly dumped.
X-Cellent will probably be good, even if Milligan isn't at his prime anymore.
Apparently USAgent will be on the side of the villains during Devil's Reign, huh? Assuming of course that's Walker under the hood.
Surprised the Spider-Woman book is still going on. I read the first couple issues and it's nothing to write home about.
On a closing note, I'm very curious about that Sabretooth book. Victor Lavalle is a great writer and I'll love to see what he'll bring to the X-office.

Date: 2021-11-19 06:15 pm (UTC)That's pretty cool
I hope they do something fun with them
Black Cat appearing in the Spidey books more is good too. I hate her ongoing had to end but I'll take her being a supporting character over nothing
Queen Goblin's design is kind of hot and kind of cool but I'm eh on the idea of yet more Goblin stuff. Do we need this? There's Norman, Harry and Roderick plus I think Menace is still around tho god knows what is happening with her
I'm not saying writers shouldn't make new villains or that a legacy villain can't be cool but yet another Goblin when basically EVERY major story in all the Spider books has revolved around a Goblin for the past decade or so? Either use a classic villain who isn't a Goblin or invent a new villain who isn't a Goblin is my feeling here
I do love that it looks like Felicia is about to fuck her right there in the sky tho
Writers: Our new villain Queen Goblin is so powerful! What have the heroes got that can stop her
Black Cat: I'll tell ya what I've got
Queen Goblin's pussy on my breath
Writers: ...........
No one has EVER spoken to us like that before
Black Cat: That's because their mouth's too full of Queen Goblin's box

"Got another one here guys. He was crying and screaming a lot, so I had'ta knock him out."
(also, yay Hobie. Even if he's not being the Prowler or Spider Hero, it's nice to see Hobie get some love.
... allllthough given what happened to him last time he got the spotlight, kind of worried for him.)
The X-Office trusting a big moment meant to change everything forever to Percy is... hrrrrn...
A new arc in New Mutants.
Are they going to follow up on the whole Tier subplot?
