(No Scans) Hawkeye Discussion Part One and Two

Episode 1 and 2 have dropped.

Comments as I watch:

Once upon a time there was a little princess who discovered that the world could be a terrifying place, and then was accidentally saved by a travelling prince. This was all very good, but so impressed with him was she that she decided to become a prince herself! Was this really a good idea?

(She could probably have done much better, but that's how it goes. Anyone want to bet that Kate's dad is actually alive and kicking?)

Oh the look on Clint and Lila's faces as they're watching the play! It stops being funny very quickly, though.

Well there's a kick in the pants for you.

And the Swordsman! Okay, this is taking some interesting turns.

Oh, I don't think this is going to play out the way that Kate thinks it will.

Fight choreography is a bit rougher than it has been recently, or possibly I'm spoiled by Arcane.

Oh good grief how long has that pizza been in there?

And they meet again for the first time. Away we go.

Episode 2:

Moira Brandon?! Wow, that's a deep cut!

The proper answer to "Why don't you join us?" in this situation is, "Because I'd rather eat offal."

Okay, I am convinced that Jeremy Renner is having the time of his life in this scene.

The proper answer to "Why don't you apologize" is also "Because I'd rather eat offal."

Kate's mom is probably the big bad.

And there's Echo. The cast is almost complete.

It is clearly Kate's show and I am fine with that. It's what I was most excited for any way.

The fight choreography made me dizzy.

Also: Lucky is Mephisto?!

Yeah, I was worried about hanging this show on Jeremy Renner's Clint performance but it clearly belongs to Hailee Steinfeld's Kate and she's doing very well.

"Also: Lucky is Mephisto?!"

Oh, dang. I forgot we were supposed to be doing this.

Um...tracksuit guy #3 is Mephisto!

Can't wait for all the "things you might have missed" videos and articles in the next week.

Rogers: The Musical was produced by Mephisto.
The cast are all Skrulls.
Except Nate the Skrull, who is actually Kang.

The glowing critical reviews will be a plot device to introduce Mutants into the MCU.

And the guy playing Musical!Hawkeye is Johnny Storm.

On a more serious note, let's hope the MCU Swordsman doesn't meet Mantis.

Given how little MCU Mantis has in common with Comic Mantis, doesn't seem like there's much chance of that.

And if Jaques is a bad guy, he'll almost certainly die anyway.

Yeah, MCU Mantis isn't lusting after that synthezoid D.

Thankfully, MCU Mantis doesn't have the annoying habit of calling herself 'This One'. As in, 'This One feels guilty because the Swordsman sacrificed himself for her. Now This One will marry a plant alien possessing his body'.

I like it so far. Kate seems like Kate, which is good. Love how they actually used the opening titles to tell a story. Heartwarming as always to see regular people appreciating super-heroes saving their lives!

Only downside for me so far is Lucky. Seems like he was thrown in just because he was in the comic. I know we probably don't want to watch a dog get hit by a car, but now he's just missing an eye already, and turned on the tracksuits for no reason at all.

I think there may be more than there seems to Lucky, with the way that he was almost ... waiting? ... for Kate in his first scene.

I'm not sure how much they CAN really do with a live action Lucky. I mean, there's a reason there's the showbiz saying about not working with children or animals. They tend to be unpredictable.

As awesome as it would be, I don't think we're getting a Lucky POV episode like we did in the comic.

We probably won't get a helicarrier randomly dropping by to kidnap Clint off a rooftop either. :(

Speaking as someone with no particular opinion on Hawkeye (beyond missing pre-synergized comic Hawkeye)...
Interesting start.

Lucky is best dog.
But watching a show with a dog is difficult. Might make future watching hard... especially if anything happens to him beyond getting to live happily on the Barton farm.
This dog better not die.

Strong goofball energy from Kate. (This is why people use doors, Kate.)

... Jacques is so super-suspicious I'm wondering if it'll be a double-bluff, and that someone else did the murder.
But that mustache is doing him no favours.

(The mustache is Mephisto, obvs.)

Renner and Steinfeld are both great at their roles.

The LARP scene on episode 2 took forever, tho I get that they're were trying to show that Clint is a very down-to-earth guy. The swordfight scene after the dinner was also good, and I hope that Tony Dalton gets more time to shine as Swordman.

Very excited for Echo. Her introduction at the end was appropriately chilling.

The fight scenes on the first episode were a bit lacklustre, I think, but the character dynamics make over for it, imo.

Eleanor absolutely killed Kate's dad, didn't she? I hope they make her and Duquesne both very evil. I'm tired of villains with a sad past on the Marvel shows, and we'll already have Echo to fill that spot here.

All in all, a decent start, tho I fear that it'll end up like Wandavision and FatWS, spending a lot of time on unnecessary stuff on the first couple episodes and then having to rush at the end.
