Why, Lord? Why must you destroy everything that is beautiful?

Okay, so Maya has a very good reason to be peeved that Ronin appears to be back.

And the fight and the chase were fun, until ... until ...

I suspect that Clint is in fact feeling like there are no options at this point.

Oh ... that must be the most painful moment that he's been through in this whole thing.

And now where are we going?

Nothing really happens in this episode. It is pure filler and padding. But it is ep3 of a Disney+ show, and that is the filler and padding episode according to the formula.

I'm reluctant to call it filler because these shows are the continuation of a series of action movies and this was an action-heavy episode.

But, yeah, I have a lot less to talk about when there's more fighting than talking.

It was nice to see Kate use the trick arrows and gain Clint's respect as an archer. Also enjoyed how they were mostly on the same page (if a little off synch) when he couldn't hear her.

On the contrary; this is Echo’s episode, introducing her and her most important relationships. It also advances Clint and Kate’s relationship and sets up them working as a team, whereas before Clint did his best to sideline her. All that and we finally get some sweet Hawkeye action. This was as far from a filler episode as you can get.

My latest theory is that the real head of the Tracksuit Mafia is Mikhail Rasputin. I have no actual evidence, but that is what I believe.

But seriously though, Fat Man Autos? Kingpin reference?

Baby Echo was shown with an unseen man whose laugh sounded a lot like someone we've seen on a Netflix show. Just saying ...

I've only seen season 1 of Daredevil and half of Jessica Jones season 1.

1) It sounded a lot like Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk to me.

2) Those are probably the best parts of the Netflix shows. Jessica Jones probably should have stayed one season and Daredevil wasn't great in the half of season two that set up the Defenders but the rest of it's three season run was fantastic.

A very clever way of pulling off "Because... boomerangs." without just re-running the exact same situation.

Probably the strongest episode of the season. Alacqua Cox is amazing, and Renner and Steinfeld had some great synergy.

I'm curious about Kazi: will he go on to be a supporting character on Echo's solo series? Will he ever suit up as the Clown? So many questions.

Fingers crosses for more of Jack's badassery with a sword on the next episode...and also for a character showing up.

I fully expect Kazi to kill Grills in this show. I know this story hasn't mirrored the comic completely* but I don't see what other purpose either of them serve in the story they're setting up.

(And really, wearing the Ronin costume in the MCU would put and even bigger target on your back than being 616 Clint's friend)

*For example, I assume Clint's brother is going to be swapped out for Nat's sister.

So, uh... Kate totally killed whoever was in that van she blew up, right?
Because it didn't look like anyone got out of the burning wreckage.
And she seems pretty cas about that.
(I mean, characters in the MCU always seem pretty cas about killing most of the time anyway, but it seems like an odd moment to walk past.
Unless Kate's being into some serious stuff we haven't seen yet.)

Having actual trick arrows was a delight.
Though I am wondering when and how Clint got a Pym Particle arrow.
Did he just walk up to Hank Pym and ask?
"And why should I, a man who spent years guarding these particles, give some to you, a random stranger?"
"It'll annoy Tony Stark?"
"Done!"

Wondering if at some point Kate is going to speculate whether Ronin was actually Laura Barton.
Because Clint is just awful at hint-dropping.

"Because Clint is just awful at hint-dropping."

You really have to wonder how MCU Clint lasted so long as spy.

Though the bit about how Black Widow defeated Ronin is technically true.

I assume mainly because he was working with Black Widow.
And by working, I mean distracting everyone else by being terrible, while she just strolled in and beat the ever-loving crap out of everyone in arm's reach.

-technically true-
The best kind of true!
While also being wrong in pretty much every respect.

I meant more his terrible communication skills. I still have no idea how Clint flipped Nat.

His fighting skills are fine by MCU SHIELD standards. Pretty sure he could mop the floor with most or all of the Agents of SHIELD cast.

Wasn't Nat looking for an excuse to get away from the Red Room by the time Clint came after her?

You're right, that makes way more sense than what we were told in Avengers.

Though it makes Clint look even worse because I get the sense flipping people (Black Widow, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch) was the main reason Fury kept him around. I'm not sure I'd say the twins had a very successful superhero career.

(Though Wanda totally could have beat Thanos so, international incidents aside, it's better to have her with you than against you. I assume Dr. Strange is going to be reminded of that soon)

Maybe Nat was onto something when she said pretending to need Hawkeye kept the Avengers together...

Suddenly some of Nat's comments to and about Clint seem a lot less like playful teasing between long-time friends and a lot more like actual mockery.

I dunno- he was also on overwatch on both Mjolnir and the tesseract project because he's really good at watching and evaluating people from a distance. But this is all stuff we're told about Hawkeye rather than seeing it in action.

Also, I know we were just joking about wild fan speculation last week but at this point there have been so many obvious clues that I'm going to be really annoyed if Echo's boss/"uncle" isn't the Kingpin.

Specifically Vincent D'Onofrio.

Just caught up. I'm digging Kate- a combination of serious skills but being authentically in over her head that hits 'newbie superhero,' in a way I'm not sure I've seen done as well before.

Definitely agree that it looks a lot like we're setting up for the Kingpin- so, I won't be shocked if there's a wild swerve and Vincent D'Onofrio shows up playing Hammerhead or something, because Marvel likes to troll us like that.

I mean, Spectacular Spider-Man set up Kingpin and gave us Tombstone so it CAN work but at this point there have been so many Netflix-DD-specific hints that anything other than Her Uncle Vinny is going to disappoint.

And Hammerhead looks like a Dick Tracy villain. The balance between serious stakes and outright comedy would shift a lot if he shows up on screen.

It's either going to be the Kingpin (hopefully Vincent, possibly not)....or they're going to give us another Ralph Bonner level trolling.

As someone who needs to wear hearing aids (due to a genetic problem that developed in my early 30s), I wanted to mention that I enjoyed Clint’s mishearing antics. I have had some very funny conversations when I don’t hear or mishear stuff (even with my hearing aids at times).
